Checking in From Wyoming! Happy new year. I am going to be doing a motor swap on a pair of model As this month so as I go along I will post pictures. Putting a freshly rebuilt inserted motor in a roadster and the motor out of the roadster will go in a sedan. Hope to get these swaps done quickly. Also may be putting a Mitchell OD unit in the roadster as well.

Checking in. Got my new camshaft installed. Of course, there was an associated adventure, but I won't bore you with all the details. They are in my Shade Tree Speedster thread. Happy New Year, everybody.

 

Sunday I pulled the transmission lid off my pickup- I really had to square up my shifts from 1st to 2nd haha.

Got roof about done. Swapped trans lids. I'll rebuild old one as it's front mount ebrake. This weekend will be intake/exhaust. Beautiful afternoon so I took it for a walk.

 

The car was a pickup for a number of years,the body mount holes were broken out and chewed up...didnt check the subframe for true,welded up some cracks,aligned the right door,and did the body work and paint.the doors closed true on the dolly,so I thought I was money..till today.spent all day shimming and truing the body to the frame..shim,pull it down the right door would rack,so remove all bolts add shims and repeat..ended up with the left side true to the rail back to front,the right side climbing from zero in the back back to 3 shims in the front....cant imagine the poor bastard with a phaeton..drive a fella to drink it would..

 

Heading to the machine shop on Friday to pick up the new engine. Hope to have it in the roadster and running by mid January. Then a trip to the GNRS for a maiden voyage. Pictures to follow.

 

Write something...in ‘17 just before a wee life style alteration I started in on a speedster. Fast forward to 2020 and getting a restart. Second mock up of basic body lines and chassis. 97” wb, 7” engine set back, 8” drop planned for the front and 6” for the rear (will then level the car with myself and gear in it...at 265 I can put a bit of weight on chassis).

For the fun, Bob and I have a gentlemen’s challenge on our T’s, first goal is tear frame drop in by the 26th.

ARP Head Studs

Months/years(?) ago I remember someone having kits of ARP cylinder head studs for the Model A engine. The broached allen key end would be nice in this application.

If this sounds familiar, any sourcing would be appreciated.

what I have learned is that "rolled" threads are the best way to go . many vendors offer these .

 

Doin same thing. Notches in forks not that bad, but ball on shift lever is about a cube.

Bought them from ARP with the Allen head end along with stainless acorn nuts and washers.

Shutter Speed- it was curious,on my pickup the gates are hugely worn but the ball just barely. On another the ball was a cube barely bigger than the stem but the gates were almost perfect. The one I ended up using had some wear on both but will work for now.

 

Yeah @Jet96, hard tellin not knowing what kinda wear+tear these things have suffered.

It’s my 1st trip inside a banger trans, and I’m rebuilding the “tower” for starters. I’m wondering, with the trans still in place, and with the top open, is there a way to rotate the gears for inspection to determine if a removal/rebuild is necessary?

Any suggestions? Rear end on jack stands..clutch depressed..slow spin of rear wheel..or?
I can spin the crank, but would be pretty slow goin back and forth.

Is my ignorance showing?!

 

in neutral , top off , jack up rear & turn wheel . hopefully that will do as you need ……….

 

Cut the kickups to match the T chassis by the 26th of this month. That NOS rear crossmember covered the cost of a 1909-13 rear crossmember and front crossmember that will get set back for the engine mount. Bob
