all of the anticipation and excitement of Christmas has ended - not the memories or cool gifts - but, now time to get back to whatever "normal" is 20191226_060355.jpg

  21. Cut the tree up in little pieces this morning and threw it in the green container, and just finished pulling down the Christmas lights and packing all that crap away.

    It's over, thank god! :p

I've been married for 43 years, Christmas isn't over until the wife says its over. Then I'll pick up our little fake tree and put it back in the basement until she tells me its time to get it out again.

I've been to Normal IL, but I've never been to Boring OR, so I can't make the decision about which is better or worse. It wouldn't take much to be at a better place then Normal IL.

We have been near 60 degrees much of the week, and its suppose to stay near that temp until Sunday, when we will be returned to reality.

As far as being normal, I think it may be over rated. Being normal would pretty much be an average between being on one extreme or the other.
    "How was your day?"
"Average, that would be better then yesterday, but worse then tomorrow is going to be." Spring is another day closer. Gene

If you find yourself in Boring Oregon in the winter there is a pretty good chance you are either on your way to or on your way from Mt. Hood.
Funny story, years ago, drove from Wisconsin through your fine state on the way to Kentucky, there was some sort of toxic spill on the interstate so had to detour through quite a lot of rural area, there sure are A LOT OF CORN FIELDS there.
Saw a sign along one corn field that said "prepare to meet your maker", wasn't sure if the farmer was religeous or just tired of people stealing his corn.

I love Christmas but I get rather upset when the "twelve days of Christmas" stops at Christmas. Christmas is the first day and January 6th is the last day! Business has turned it into the "twelve weeks of Christmas shopping". Boxing Day becomes a ghost.

That's interesting as a farmer in a rural part of my county also has a sign reading "prepare to me your maker". The sign is on a bend in the road where the road has a high crown in the middle. Many times a car ends up down in the ditch by this sign. Probably trying to read the sign and not the road.

The magic of Christmas has been lost to me for several years, I'm happy when it's over. It has become a dog eat dog world, got to spend money you don't have on stuff you don't want to spend it on to give to people you don't want to give it to. I don't mind buying and giving to the grandson, he is the only thread of Christmas left that I do enjoy. I don't enjoy the music anymore, I don't watch the silly programs anymore, I don't go to any parties. We go to the wife's family and eat, we go to my Mom's and eat, spending time with some of them is enjoyable, some of them I avoid all the time, not just at Christmas. I don't care about the lights and decorations, either.

Call me Scrooge, call me a Grinch, whatever, I don't care. Christmas is for kids, and I'm far past that. I enjoy watching the kids. I'm not a highly religious person anymore, but I do still respect the true story of Christmas, and feel as it has been minimized to the point that most people don't even know of it.

I still love the Holidays, but dread the months that follow. In Oregon those months are cold, rainy and nasty. On the bright side, I can start the count down to the big April swap meet in Portland.
