Dzus fasteners are used where you need to be able to remove a panel and reinstall it quickly, the floorboard isn't the best place to use them, I would recommend using bolts that will hold it down tight and prevent some of those annoying rattles!
Definitely. Either that or if you want to curse at yourself a ways down the road (or the next owner) install rivnuts in the floor and put screws or bolts through into them. Why? If you've never gone to undo one and it just spins, well, you're missing out on life! (Rivnuts are actually pretty good though). Phil
So here is what I did on my Mercury. Under hood detailed in Calypso Coral, same colour as my father's Boss 429. Inside I did the stock colour but removed the gauges, added a Shift-o-guide speedometer and trimmed with a Mercury hood spear. Tremec 5-Speed, disc brakes front and rear, removed the vent glass, power windows, Mustang II and Mercury Big Job hood spears. Also removed the ashtray and lengthened the glove box door.
Rivnuts are awesome when you choose the right style (ribbed) and install them correctly with a good quality tool in the properly sized hole. Even then once in a while you will have one that spins loose. That's why when I did the removable floor pans and transmission tunnel in my 26 RPU I used all 1/4" steel rivnuts to secure them. Lots of them. Then when I was finishing the welding before prep for paint I tack welded each and every one of them on the bottom side. After painting I ran a tap through every hole and when I bolted the floor-tunnel in I used stainless bolts liberally coated with never seize. I won't have any issues. Like I always say, work smart not hard and plan ahead.
Well Gents! I'm down to lifter and cam shaft removal today, I continue to love this H.A.M.B family for their help and insight. I'll try to get more photos of today's progress. Till then here's a couple.
If you can see where the rust is not that is really how awesome this engine is, still don't know why this was parked after 57 but I don't think it was an engine problem

Good morning H.A.M.B. Bones Here's the up date on the 51F1 I've taken the disassembled 239 V8 to the Flathead specialist here in Tucson and boy o boy was it cool! this gent which some of you know (a H.A.M.B. Member) is the real deal and like all of you a true good guy wanting to see me succeed with the F1. The engine is good as far as we know at this time in unbelievable condition but we'll know more after he boils this thing in the brew. As far as we can see no cracks and one piston bore with rust damage that will force me to bore to a 30 over but we think we'll go 125 based on his inspection after a thorough cleaning. I'm now on the search for engine rebuild parts and I am asking if any of you are willing to part with any extras you have sitting around. Is it PC to ask that here or ok with you all to do so? Just joined the H.A.M.B. Family members and gonna put the H.A.M.B. Tag on fire wall any recommendations on that? Also any suggestions on which H.A.M.B. Vendors will give a poor old ford owner the best savings on engine rebuilding parts
For rebuild parts I would ask your engine guy? I’m sure he’s got a good recommendation, and then I’d search the list of alliance vendors for their name. I know Tim McMaster aka yblockguy builds some snotty flatheads I’d try him as well. Not sure why it’s not letting me tag him maybe I’ve got his user name slightly wrong
Thanks Tim Yes he had suggestions, I was just asking in case some of you fine folks had purchased any gasket sets or bearing set and wanted to clear space in the garage for Christmas presents
Keep taking lots of pics and posting them. I've have never really wanted a old truck but something has changed. I've got my eye on one locally......it's looking better every day!
I’ve been down the same road as you. My 8BA is .125 over with a Schneider cam. I bought French military crank and rods from So-Cal speed and had it balanced. I got valves, lifters, and Zephyr springs from Reds. It scoots along, but I probably would have gone with a bigger cam if I had it to do over again. Running Edelbrock heads and 4bbl.
