@DDDenny I just did a search of Danekas blowers here on the H.A.M.B. and it looks like they were build built by a drag racer named Mark Danekas back in the 80's who was hurt in a racing accident or shot to death in a drug deal gone bad  and are a version of a GMC 671 and not nearly as old as I had hoped.

Danekas called that the Super Blower because it used larger diameter rotors that he manufactured to build more boost. Some of the other blower builders made their own cases also, but I think those were more for better rigidity and/or weight savings as some were cast in magnesium.

Here is a Latham on a friends 56 BelAir 6 cylinder. Thing about Lathams is they don't start boosting until they reach 30,000 RPM's. Got to have the big ass crankshaft pulley and the little pulley on the Latham.

@brandon B, that is an interesting modification to the Autolite 4100 on your friends engine. The choke horn was eliminated by machining a new top for the carb, and it looks like tubing was added to direct the air flow into the venturies.
The other thing I notice is the ny-loc nut on the blower pulley shaft. The shaft looks to be real short and I think a half crown nut would have been a better choice.

Here’s a pruned 371 I’m building for Flathead v8, the completed setup will run dual 5/8” v belts. Still machining the blower and generator pulleys.

Mel put together that carb specifically for this application. You're right he machined the new top for the carb and did other modifications.

    Yes

He also has another Latham on a 30 roadster running a flathead Pontiac straight 8. But wait, that's not all. He has a 34 5 window running twin, as in 2, S.C.O.T. blowers on a 394 Olds with 4x2's. He put that together in the late 60's and has been driving it ever since. He drove it to his 50th high school reunion a couple years ago.

Thanks, just a nice simple, compact setup that should pull like hell and still be reliable, going in a 29 coupe

  12. Marc Danekas was known for a few things with blowers. The superblower was the most memorable. It never caught on even though it made more boost. By the time 12's and 14's were being manufactured, he opened up the top to expose more of the rotors. His thought was that there was a restriction by the size of the opening. Years later Norm Drazy with PSI proved that to be false. Before Marc was killed, he sold the blower business to Mike Robertson where it eventually dies off to the best of my knowledge. Marc fielded a car driven by Lucille Lee with some success.

Somebody applied a Miller logo to that thing but it is really far removed from being traditional. Looks like a Weiand. Harry Miller used centrifugal blowers but never a Roots type.

The fake blower badge goes well with the pinstriped stock heads

Navarro blower setup, thought to have first run in either late 1946 or early 1947.

Barney Navarro did first install a blower in that time frame but it was a GMC 3-71.
The Frenzel supercharger shown was introduced an late 1949 or 1950 and that particular one was rebuilt by Keith Tardel.

I bought a 3-71 back in November . Now I need to start collecting front and rear bearing plates and drive system. Going on my 300 inliner six or my 250 Chevy inliner six.

Here's another thread on the subject although it covers mostly roots style blowers and a couple Potvin type setups.
