Wow Del Santo Shell Service in Poughkeepsie, New York

We use to race karts at a dirt track in Poughkeepsie not far from that Shell Station.

  2. Cool items. The first item by Tyrol is actually meant for your car. It hooks on the window glass and has a hook at bottom for clotheshanger. I have the same giveaway from a Signal Gasoline station. Back in the days when gas stations gave away free roadmaps, calendars, and usefully little gifts. All while providing full service with a smile.
Signal Gas & Oil was headquartered in Los Angeles with stations in the 7 western states plus a few stations in lower British Columbia, Canada

"It takes extra quality to go farther", they sponsored a 1/2 hour radio program called "The Whistler" a kind of murder mystery deal that always had a strange twist at the very end.

  4. That's true Truck 64. I've been told The Whistler was only sponsored by Signal Oil in the states where they had stations.
    Thanks for the reminder!

The ashtray is a local piece that I picked up the other day at the same place I got the antifreeze checker. I found the dental floss holder in an old project truck. It's from up north in Alberta Canada. The old man that had the truck used to spend the summer up there. 20191215_150511.jpg 20191215_150400.jpg 20191215_152017.jpg

SCISSOR SHARPENER: I know it's not "office stuff " but I'm sure they were handed out in the station. One side is an Esso advertisement, the other side is Atlas Tires. 20200211_064624.jpg 20200211_064632.jpg

Interesting the Whistler was broadcast on Sunday nights and we never missed a week. The lead in was someone whistling a singular note tune which raised the hair on your neck. The call letters on that ad was KIRO a very early Seattle Radio Station still broadcasting

    just sayin'

  13. I like collecting this little giveaway salt and pepper shakers. I use them on the kids gas stations on their slot car layout. Ron...... 20200316_225207.jpeg

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg My Dad got these from the Gates Mystery Man. Anyone remember them? Gates sent guys across the country in the 60's and 70's to service stations, had them check their oil, or water, and if you were good at your job you could find a bad belt or hose. My Dad got 3 of these awards. I was a snotnosed kid and missed my chance when the Mystery man came in and I didn't find his worn fan belt.

Picked this up the other day at Dove Radiator Shop in Bristol Tn. I took it straight off the wall! 20200611_172000.jpg The shop is 95 years old. It's the only radiator repair shop left in the tri cities area.

I remember Bert Amer's rad shop in Red Deer,AB. Had a number of rads and a heater core fixed there. They closed in the early 80's

  20. Thanks for sharing Oilguy. Nice collection, and very nicely displayed.
In the late 1980s and early 90s while living in Seattle area I began collecting Signal Gas & Oil items. I look forward to the day when my collection is displayed.
