I am looking at a Rat Rod that is titled as a 1928 Chevy truck. But the body is not a 28 Chevy truck. I need help identifying the body. It is a steel body with the doors welded shut. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Rob

4992088-1930-desoto-ck-business-coupe-thumb.jpg Welcome to the HAMB, glad you are asking questions before loosing money. Chrysler or Desoto with the twin cowl vents, around 1930, buying it for the body? Scrap the rest? Bob

My dad always told me to buy something decent and not drag home some piece of shit. I have never taken his advice, but I do understand his reasoning.

That thing is a pile, keep looking.

It's a absolute waste for what COULD have been a cool build.

You just came back from putting out a fire didn't you? Another 10-15 minutes on oxygen and you'll be back to normal. Bob

I agree with the37kid, it does appear to be a Chrysler, I had one a while back that had that same design on the visor, and the (former) dual cowl vents are a giveaway.

That said, the booger welding on that body looks incredibly crude, and I would be surprised if the suspension and steering layout was properly done considering the workmanship displayed. What is that link that's bolted to the front leaf spring mount? It can't be a panhard bar, but I don't know how it'd be a steering link, either. Just that is terrifying to me.

Is that a shifter mounted on the outside of the body, with a 6 foot long rod arrangement? If it is, I can't think of a less safe setup than that, surely even a junebug hitting it at speed would slam the trans into first, or a hard stop would send it into reverse or park.

Also, the pitman arm seems to be at a very odd angle when the wheels are lined up straight, although that could be just the angle of the picture.

  18. Lmao! That was great Bob! Hey i did say use your imagination!! It's all the pain medication and being dehydrated... i gotta get out of this house before i lose my mind. .

Looks like it runs/drives? has a title? . Now it's all relative to price, pay what its worth . An old Chevy body , and you could have a LOW $ Hotrod.

That thing suxass ... that being said, I’ve seen comparable ‘vehicles ‘ here on the Hamb. Body looks to be in fairy decent condition to start on a decent build, but you will have to use your imagination some...

Body is junk without someone with skills slaving on it, is that a reasonable T bucket chassis under all the rubbish? You might be able to build something off that if it’s not been screwed with but that mess needs to be cheap.

  22. I had a 31 Dodge [I was told] with those twin cowl vents. Someone had made a shorty from a 4 door coach. 31doodge.jpg

  23. Yes....that was a 1931 Dodge.
