any of you truck guys have one of thes steering columns apart? looks like it calls for a upper and lower bearing at the top of the column? theres no bearings in upper , and only a few in the lower part of the bowl. which the turn signal mounts to, and the steel part of this mount looks like it takes an upper and lower bearing? any help. so far no body is stocking these for 63. thanks for any input!
yes theres a upper bearing. its a little flimzy brass thing with little ball bearings. not big enuf for a trycycle. Yours likely wore out and fell apart.

Spend the $300 or $400 and get new one from Speedway etc. Had a chevy one in my truck and tried to fix it--what a mess. Noe have a nice chrome one with adjustable column. Works great but if it has a key in the column you could have problems.
$400 for a steering collum? Heck I only spent $400 for my 66 GMC truck. Been working the crap out of it for 6 years.

Rd I'll dig out my 63 Chevy truck shop manual and see if they show a breakdown, kind of doubt it though.
I've got one out of a 64 chev truck at work .pics in a hour or so.it could be yours for less than 400 bucks too
Funny, I just ordered the same part for my 47 Olds. Same number fits many different years. It was kind of a pain to get out, basically had to fold it in on itself to get it to break loose. There is a non metallic insulator that is part of the bearing assembly as it is part of the horn system. It pretty much got left behind in the column and I had to scrape it out after I got the brass part out. This is what it looked like when I got it out!
When I did the steering column (the last time) in my 38 Chevy it used what appears to be the same bearing, I got a used one (for free) from a friend. I personally like the appearance of the stock column over the tilt telescopic etc aftermarket assemblies. Maybe that's why I like the HAMB
Rd I'm not sure which column you have but I'd guess they are the same relating to the top bearing, not much discussion or photo of the lower one. This is all I could find, looks like only one upper bearing. Apparently much care must be taken when working on these, also some CRITICAL tolerances in the reassembly of the lower end, depending on whether it is a column shift three speed. Let me know, I can send more info as needed.
thanks all of you for the help! found an new old stock one! sounds like alot of people needing these if you keep the stock column! i googled the original part number,, which is 5672508 gm number, it fits 39 /48 passenger car/55/63 passenger car/60/63 truck/and 41/46 pickup, thanks to the filling station truck parts, 1800 841 6622/ for thes numbers/ he did not have it,but on order, i read replacements are not as good as oem, i googled the part number and a few came up on ebay, couldnt find any of the big suppliers carry it in stock or can get it.thanks again guys, thanks dd denny you guys are the best, i owe you all a beer! now back to this dam suburbun!!!
Chevy used to stock column rebuild kits, it had everything in them. The last one I bought was for a '69 panel truck.
