hello all just a continuation of thread titled "What have I done" Still trying to decode my vin and figure out what ford called the paint color of this 19 51 F1.
I like what you are doing. I had one of those trucks in the 70s and I still miss it. My wife managed to hit both sides of the same bridge with it one icy morning and completely destroyed it. She's OK though.
I'm glad she's OK, sorry for the loss of your truck I'm sure we can all agree we have those we "Still miss" , mine is a 70 half ton Ford 4x4
Looks like you are putting a trot-line weight in a F-1. Funny thing is lately I have been thinking of finding a Jail Bar pickup and dropping a big inch flatty in it. Kind of out of character for me actually. Its not like I don't have newer motors to play with but I know where there is a big truck flatty (basically a Lincoln flathead V-8) that I am sure I could own, and I just got to thinkin that it would be fun to shove in an old Ford.
Hello Tim I mistakenly spoke to Center of the Galaxy about the color but it was you that lead me in the right direction on the shade of blue, would you have an idea on what shade the white would have been
As of today the massive mess I made on the side of my house with the pressure washer is cleaned up and parts are soaking in Evapo rust the bottom side of the engine once pan was removed looks unbelievably well. The Flathead expert in Tucson has a couple thing for me to do but is so far blown away by the condition. All head bolts spun right out and "No" visible cracks, no scoring or scratches in the piston chambers.
Lol , no but just as redneck, I left the wheels of the stand, cherry picked the engine into a wheel barrel, took the picker and the stand into the garage, picked up the engine with the picker again, put the wheels on the stand, loaded the engine back onto the stand and WaaLaa
Because I'm a newbie! I sit here wondering if my vin can lead me to the dealership it was sold at and if so what chance there is that they have any info on this after such a long time? Silly enough I know but I don't know so can you all unload on my silly thought
Sungate ivory. Is listed vaguely as ivory or off white but in 54 it’s refered to sungate ivory as far as I’m seeing.
Nice job, gotta love a flat head engine! I see what you're working with there and I'm gonna suggest you throw another $45 at your toolbox and go back to H-F and grab a load leveler. If you're working by yourself, slotting the engine+gearbox back in (and inevitably back out again) is considerably easier with one, particularly if you've taken the time to repair the floorboard and no longer have the access to move the transmission that way. Nice thing here is that you picked something that you can apply your trade knowledge to- there's not much in the knowledge of building and repairing hydraulics that cannot be extended to engines. Keep at it! --Phil
I'm great full Tim The plan is to paint interior and engine compartment the original Alpine Blue, bumper, chassis and running boards gloss black. The grill the Sungate Ivory and chrome head light rings, wipers side mirrors handles etc. Please chime in folks I'm not there yet so there is still time to beat down my plan and change my mind
Thanks Phil Another off the wall idea I have is to replace the steel which I have already received on the cab floor but make it removable, Oh yes Zeus clip style removable . What say you Oh H.A.M.B's of much knowledge
