Termites and Bowties- Early Chevy Group

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 29bowtie, Jan 7, 2009.

  1. Shorty, those producing wood kits are dwindling and they are usually backlogged, so get your order in early as it will likely take a while. Two good ones are Autowood Restoration, www.autowood.net, and KC Wood Manufacturing, www.chevywood.com. If you're going to build a hot rod, which I assume you are since you're on the HAMB, you probably ought to consider using steel square tubing instead of wood.

What are your plans for that '34 Master? Sure wud like to see a few other pix of it now. You shud also do a build thread on the HAMB, with pix, as you progress with the build. Best wishes.

I would not recommend Autowood, KC Wood is a better choice.

    Two questions:

    1) does anyone know where I can find a pair of 31 Chevy 2 Door sedan doors?

    2) Does anyone have a set of 31 2 door sedan doors then can measure for me? I need to know from fron to back, how long are the doors.

I have a nice set of 1930 doors that seem to fit dimensional but the reveal is different and the window opening is different as well. I thought I would use them as a place holder and ultimately modify them to fit if I cannot find 31 doors.

Flatmotor40 was looking for this same part for my 34 Chevy for over 2 years and seams to be looking for a needle in a haystack! You can also put your search in Ebay favorites! Good luck!

  9. Seen, as in seen one for sale or seen, as in get some dimensions to make one? You're likely to find some hen's teeth before you find one of those luggage racks for sale, but you never know. There are several shown in pix in this thread. For example, here's one on the back of a '34 Chevy Std phaeton and madmike3434 has one on the back of his coupe and one on the back of his phaeton. You might want to PM him for some dimensions. He might have some knowledge that he wud share of possible finds, too. I haven't seen him on this thread lately, so I'm hopeful he's doing alright.

The luggage rack pictured on the back of both of Mikes coupe and phaeton are the USA style rack, its different than the Canadian rack, which has straight bars rather than the gently curved shown. The racks shown fit both the 1934 master and 1934-1935 chevrolet standard series!
I have seen 2 sales of complete racks on ebay in the 2019 calender year on ebay . Warning you better find a complete one: rack , mounting bars, stainless trim, emblem. The individual parts are very hard to come by.

My friend had to have the stainless moldings made by Northfield forming in Ohio at a cost of $400 for the rack for his roadster.

Unfortunately I know people into 34-35 chevrolets who have them but are using them as garage wall art.

Here is a scan out of a 1935 chevrolet brochure!

I would never put that on the car its much too large and throws the balance of the visual appearance off to the point of hideous !!! Just a luggage rack is better choice.

  14. I'd have to agree with Roars on that. I'd never put that Deluxe Luggage Carrier on my 2dr sedan. Possibly on a 4dr, particularly if it was a restoration, but definitely not on my 2dr sedan hot rod. Yet, that appears to be what Flatmotor was looking for, so go for it!! Maybe you'll have better luck finding that style.

Here's my old Ozzie rack that I sold to a restorer after I had it powder coated and polished the SS strip. I'm pretty sure that's it above in post# 3099

The wiring is about 75% complete as is the body and engine bay assembly.

Most of the dash wiring is bundled with temporary Velcro straps. You can see the programmable fan controller and the fuse/relay panel are mounted on their stainless mount. It'll look pretty clean once everything is terminated and tied up.

The brakes are finished and just need to be filled and bled.

I modified my side mirrors reshaped and polished and installed with a rubber gasket, nyloc nut and a stainless washer.

Made up cables for the starter, alternator, panel feed and battery that join at a 3/8" stainless stud below the right side cowl.

The Hobbs switch for torque converter lock-up and the heater control valve both need a manifold vacuum source so I made a stainless adapter fitting that matches the -3AN oil feed line that goes to oil pressure gauge sending unit.

All the interior trim was final polish! Rory
