Hot Rods Just How Many Sets of Wheels and Tires Do You OWN?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by lothiandon1940, Nov 30, 2019.

  1. A recent request by a HAMBer made me wonder just how many "extra" sets of wheels and tires do we have stored in the garage, basement, shed, etc? It's nice to have a different look now and then, but just how long can you rely on those tires that have been sitting in storage for 6-10 years or more? Do you store them upright and roll them around now and then so they don't flat-spot or flat and stacked on top of each other? Just a reminder....don't store them near any kind of electric motor (like your furnace blower) as they give off ozone while in operation which is detrimental to rubber. Post up pics of your extra sets of wheels and tires.

  4. Roadster wheels and tires now. Hopefully a little less "street-roddy". 5539972554BB90CB.png 044-vi (1).jpg 5539972554BB90CB.png

  9. I don't even know. I've always liked collecting vintage wheels. Your right, the tires don't last that long. So I store them in a Cool dark place, laying down. I have a set of smoothies as they have both lug patterns. I have a couple sets of gray spokes, two a set of polished Americans. A full set ot ET-III's and a full set of Cragers, all on new tires. I don't know how many vintage wheels? But I never pass one up if it's a good deal. I'll find them one at a time. plus wheel adapters and spacers. Too many swap meets I guess lol 20191125_193149.jpeg 20191111_032653.jpeg 20191103_101537.jpeg 20191009_031441.jpeg 20191002_012816.jpeg 20190627_093108.jpeg 20181115_043522.jpeg 20190410_123942.jpeg 20190519_112201.jpeg

I always thought wheels in the basement were like skeletons in the closet and you don't need to talk about them........
Women have shoes men have wheels and tires, insert Tim Allen grunt here! Lol

I bought new wheels because the dang tires on the truck were getting pretty old... and I hadn't even realized it!!
I decided to buy new wheels to change the look to see if really liked it and plan to keep the old wheels and tires as roll arounds for the next project... if it shows up!
Keeping the old tires and wheels, with the correct stance that I prefer; gives me a leg up on the starting point for the next project... or something I can put on a new acquisition!;):D If I like the look, I can just buy new tires when I'm ready to ride.;) Best to buy tires last as builds seem to take longer and longer!:D:D I'm too cheap to buy new tires to get the desired stance as a starting point for a build and then have the dang tires rot before I finally get it on the road!!:D
Speaking of skeletons, I've got a nice set of Boyds...:D:D

and some Chevy rally wheels... and some old 5.5 pattern Ford wheels... and ...:D:D

  20. .............I don't have any Boyd's, but I do still have these American fake Centerlines that were on the '40 when I acquired it 30 years ago. Couldn't wait to get them off and replace them with some steel wheels and early Ford caps. 20191130_064402.jpg

Somewhere over in the bushes I have the 4 steelies off the Lincoln, two usable, two junk. Also have 4 aluminum 80's turbine spoke wheels out there somewhere. None of these have any tires on them that are any good. I need to break them down and stack them up somewhere, but not feeling that energetic. Maybe one day, lol....

Last set of those fake Centerlines I had I put a set of $300 billet fake knockoffs on them, good money after bad. Good enough for the shop loaner car though.

  26. Steelies on the wagon & Deuce, 5 spokes on the '50, I have a set of 14" 5 spokes that I have had for 50 years and a set of chrome reverse that came off the '50. HRP
