I think it was 1956 I saw Sir Malcom Campbell attempt a water speed record in Blubird on Lake Mead near Las Vegas. During the attempt his boat struck a log n sunk. My family stayed until about 2 in morning til they brought the boat back up. He was amazing in his zeal at speed records on land n water.

Saw Malcolm Campbell in Toronto at the Canadian National Exhibition along with his Bluebird. It was running but inside the break wall not very quickly. I was seven or eight so late 50's.
