I've got some exterior chrome that I'm not gonna use if any of you need it. Got boxes of small stuff too. Give me a yell, if you need it you can have it.

Welcome Lloyd. I just recently joined and it's been nothing but fun since I did. You won't regret it. Your Chevy's going to be great when it's done. I see you have some skills. Can't wait to see how it comes out. Also is that your C10 in the background? I have a 64 C10 I just put on a 2003 Silverado 4x4 chassis. I'm hoping to have it done soon. Good luck and have fun.

  12. Thanks man, yeah it's a customer vehicle, put it on a 68ish 4x4 frame. Did you get that flatty straightened out? I've always been a model A guy, this is my first tri 5. Trying to shorten a steering column today, and i picked up a 57 steering wheel this morning. Good way to start the day i guess lol 20191129_104407.jpg 20191129_104437.jpg

  13. Herein lies a problem, need some help. I got a sweet steering column for my wagon, laying it beside of the original column is the same length. But when i put it in the car it's about 6"longer than it should be. The car has a 605 steering box in it. Is my problem because the input shaft on this box is that much closer to the firewall? It's right at the firewall, so close that the shift levers on the original column won't go outside of the firewall. I don't want to cut up this sexy column. Do i need to source an original box to allow the column to go further out under the hood? Screenshot_20191129-112829_Gallery.jpg 20191129_111953.jpg

This is the stock, manual steering box on my car. It is relatively close to the firewall. Stock power steering box and column are likely different than this. Hope this helps, good luck we are here to help. 20191129_114524.jpg

My buddy the cobbler ran a stock rear in his '56, big block Chevy power, welded up the spider gears....saw street & strip duty, did great......

  17. Yeah there's no way this is gonna work. When the rag joint is on the box it's damn near inside the car. There is no way for the automatic lever on the bottom of the column to work. The last thing i wanted to do was run a floor shifter, but it looks like my only option other than spending a grand switching the box and one of those fancy looking chrome columns, which I'm not a fan of. Oh well %\

If your running a Turbo 400 or 350, the Hurst Autostick I shifter would look right at home in that 57. I have one in my el Camino, I love it! It has gates and shifts super smoothly, it gives the car a real nice gearhead feel.. I bought this shifter on HAMB and another off of e-Bay for parts..

I think your 57 looks nice in black primer.. Maybe a nice primer job with a shiny set of chrome reverse Series 64 wheels from Summit..

This is turning into HAMBs Project X. lol Remember Project X from Popular Hot Rodding back in the sixties..

I vote no on the floor shifter also. No on the chrome column too. Time to start cutting. Don't be scared. "Anyone can restore an antique but it takes a real man to cut one up"

  26. Lmao!!!! Man I'm losing my freaking mind here! I've got 5 columns laying here! And I've been threatened if i stick one in it with a key switch lol. I don't know what this column is out of but it's freaking beautiful and it's the one i want to use. Looks like i gotta take it all apart and get cutting
