Awesome truck! Good score! That year truck was where I got my first experience with four wheel drive trucks, in about 1965. A neighbor rancher had one. I worked for him occasionally.

  3. Small victory last night...like mentioned this truck had a slip tank in it most of its life. It was behind the car lot where the truck was on consignment. They asked if I wanted it, I said sure and we put it in the bed. I don’t want the slip tank but figured maybe I could sell it. I advertise it for 150.00 and a guy drives over to buy it. It’s an old tank, and had diesel in it. He shows up and first thing he says is “oh...that’s not an electric transfer pump”. I don’t k ow anything about slip tanks, but said “well the cords still on the truck”. The cord was in the bed and slipped down between the cab and box. He grabbed the “cord” and said “that’s a vacuum operated pump, not electric”. He was right, I never looked at it. Then it clicked...truck ran great but had a stumble and had to run with the choke out a little. I figured it just needed a carb kit, it had sat in that lot 8 months with who knows how old of gas in it...Nope, I had been running it with a huge vacuum leak! Guy loaded the tank up, as soon as he left I removed the line and plugged the port. Hit the key and it runs like a sewing machine now

Congrats! What a score. Gotta be the nicest original example of an early Ford 4x4 anywhere, I bought my 66 4x4 in Grants Pass over 10 years ago they are very rare in any condition and yours is exceptional. It will become a family favourite.

My Buddy is on his 3rd 66 , second was 4x4 . Where we live all of his were rotted and most returned to the earth . I have never seen one anywhere as nice as this truck . You did good , enjoy the find . All Ford stuff power-steering is an easy addition . Get parts from up to mid 76 , it’s power assist and bolt on stuff , no butchering up OEM , stuff .

  6. Over the weekend I got my new tires mounted on some original paint 16’s that I had. These tires are a 7.50 16 and about 3” taller than the old square tires that were on it

  10. Nice sunny drive the other evening after work. I still need to finish cleaning this thing up, but it’s a real treat to drive. One hand steering, zero rattles or squeaks. When you hit a bump it just makes a low “thump”... instead of the thing sounding like it’s coming apart.

Wow Chris. Am green with envy.
That thing is the cats ass.

  12. Total time machine. Chalk marks still on the firewall, little paint worn off the door sill. It's like you bought a 3 year old truck. Nice!

It’s great that the truck ended up in the hands of someone that really appreciates it. Congratulations!

  16. Too cool! I don't know how you're finding all these vintage 4x4s up there. Rarely do I see anything pop up for sale down here.

  17. I’m presently looking for an older Dodge but I would have jumped on that truck. Looks fantastic!

That is so nice. I would enjoy it as-is. One thing though, with the original single master cylinder please replace all the rubber brake hoses (age related dry rot, cracks) and check everything else real good in the brake system. No second chances!

  19. I pretty much finished buffing it today. I did inside the bed too. She sure is bright now

What was your polish and wax routine?
    What materials did you use?
Saw the buffer, how much hand rubbing?
    Thank you

  26. I have one for it, but it has a brand new set of tabs on it so may as well use what's on it for now

  27. I used Meguires cleaner wax on a wool pad first, and then Meguires number 2 and 3 on a foam pad. No hand rubbing
