Ryan made this stand/cart to move the engine/trans around.

The pics were pretty neat of the motor so I figured I'd share them. The engine is an ol' worn 283.

Looking at the above pic has me really wanting to figure a way to rework this side header so the outlet is angled forward and it clears the steering box. I think with a little finesse it could happen.

The bellhousing is an Ansen blowproof. The trans is an Autogear M23. Headers vintage Hedman. The front mount is an original Hurst. Intake is a Weiand WCV 283.

  2. You simply must make the Hedmans work...

    or sell them to me!

I've been looking at them with solving the fitment problem, in mind. It's possible and probably less expensive than replacing them with something else.

They collector needs to be tilted, say at a 45 and moved forward a few inches and maybe up a bit.

  4. It will be worth it!

Been following along and dig your build and so far have understood why you are doin things the way you are honestly never thought about the narrowed fenders that’s a new one for me but it does look real good the one question I have is do you have the lower collector for the headers I am curious to see what they look like

The fenders are pretty uncommon. There was a lot of modifying and chopping up going on but I think Maratta was onto something with the Missile. His fenders, because they looked rather stock, probably didn't get a second look by many, including the guys inspecting the car.

I don't have the corresponding ends for the Hedmans. If I end up running them, my plan was to get some stainless flanges cut for the down pipes to continue on.

Right on will you keep them individual and run two pipes on each side or will you run them into one on each side just curious as I am in the middle of making a set much like that I’ve seen them in the past and thought they were kool so I started fabricating a set to fit my application but wasn’t sure how to run them out the back

For simplicity's sake, my plan is to run one on each side, exiting under the running board.

The sound with four pipes per side would be crazy. Might be crazy loud too though.

    Starting the body mount process:

Got to pop a hole in here to make putting a bolt in easier. Later on we'll make a relief or a cap or something.

Please tell me there's a picture of the body on and the fenders mocked up surfacing today?

Information from the archives show that Henry did not put bolts thru the body and frame at the firewall. He said the body needed to be able to flex there

@6sally6 love the Freakin' A! Same mock-up motor, different headers. Those headers are similar but the collector is situated 90* different than my current Hedmans.

The Freakin' A also runs a Vega or Corvair box... so that frees up some space.

I appreciate that effort! As Ryan and I have both said, this is "race car sh*t". The chassis and body will be far-and-away more stiff than the stocker ever was.

Plus, as far as Henry goes, if he were around, we'd already have turned him off with the drivetrain. Haha.

... and speaking of drivetrain, a couple important packages showed up (on a Sunday!): A posi, 3.64 gears, and a build kit for the rear. I have an empty 1962 housing in the garage, so I'll haul it over to my pal whose done a couple other thirds for me.

This is just a mock-up. The car was never finished. It is for sale though.

The kid in me is psyched!!!

It's not a full mock-up. Just enough to get the body correctly in place.

    A Coupe Rear Three Quarter.jpg

First person I sent this pic to was Matt. The rear bob is perfect in my opinion.

    59 Pontiac Rear Under Model A Ford.jpg

It'll likely sit a bit higher than this on the A spring. I'm thinking I may have to get one with a reversed eye main leaf.

The stance will be different... imagine it with some rake.

Actually, the rear has been narrowed 6". It came out of this 59 Pontiac.

    IMG_20170428_114615_885.jpg

It's big, now, but it was way too big, before. Haha.

Pulling the Pontiac Rear From Storage.jpg

I stripped it down and had it blasted.

    Pontiac Rear Blasted.jpg

Then, a pal narrowed it and put new Pontiac ends on it. Looking back, I should have used Ford ends and saved myself some money on brake parts.
    Pontiac Rear Being Narrowed.jpg

    Here it is, looking "skinny".

    Narrowed Pontiac Rear Finished.jpg

This is just about what an Early Bronco 9" measures.

    Olds Pontiac Width After.jpg

The Maratta Missile's rear is a similar width and that car has been an influence.

More mock-ups: F1 Steering Box and Column

Got the F1 Steering box set into place and a steering wheel mounted to figure best placement.
