...another priceless glimpse into the time we revere around here...what a Nasty Hotrod just ad a Fink...:D

Look at the armament coming out the side...it looks to be mid engined so buddy must have been nestled in the cowl or something pretty cosy...definately a look that has kinda caught on and really never went away...

What's even better is the Hamber who posted this took this pic and may be able to explain this Lovered to an extreme 'T'

I will share his handle when I relocate it...;)

That would be Hamber @Ottomotive...thank you

  15. Stogy, people ask me why the 554 is my al time favorite race car. It's because it was an all steel Ford, on it's original '34 frame. It weighed over 2,000 lbs., and it was never beaten by a light weight tube framed fiberglass fuel altered, ever. It won because Gene Mooneyham new how to make horsepower, and tune it, and Larry Faust was lightning quick on the tree, and was not afraid of the car. Some of my best memories of 1963 were following Gene and Larry all over the west coast to watch them defend their #1 spot on the 1320 Jr. Eliminator list. Those were drag races!

I know this is one of your big favourites Dean and I am certainly not alone in appreciating your knowledge of so many of these icons.

I spent some time watching this Coupe tearing down the strip on YouTube...Quite a force it was...Someone also mentioned his running without that pre tire smokeout/tire warming prior to the run...and sure enough he would pull up have some stuff added to the slicks and off he went...sometimes it seemed that lube was even forfeited...

Sure worked for him...was that in fact a common occurrence among racers?

I really enjoyed poking my nose through your collection of pics in your Album...

It was an extremely well built and detailed racer much like your former and more recent Pickups...So I can only suspect you fellas had a lot in common...

    Different class but similar mindsets...

Very influential stuff indeed...thanks always for sharing your real life experiences with these Golden Moments in Hotrod/Race...;)

  17. In the early 60's burnouts were very uncommon. They became popular when the A/FX cars came along. Those cars were crowd pleasers and the long, smoky burnouts was part of the reason. Yes, I appreciated Gene because, like me, he was a detail man, and always wanted his cars to look their best. I feel very fortunate to have one of the last blowers he worked on.

Was The Power to do that related to the introduction of Nitro as a Racing fuel giving rather huge power but danger in volatility...to the engine and components...and the Driver

There was some good footage of raw unleashed power in those videos maybe we need some Louvers in action...;)

  21. I was there that day, I saw this car run Baylands, (Old Fremont dragstrip) many times. It was my home town track. I ran my car down it many times too. I ended up living about a mile or two from that track, but sadly it was shut down by then.

Thanks Ziggster I enjoy sharing the History which is even better when others share their connections to those moments...they truly were incredible times as Dean and Fat Ass alluded having witnessed the real deal...that 554 Coupe has such a Hotrod Evolution too...So many transitions...hard not to like them all too...

Like them or not they are nicely done and the finish straight as an arrow...that was a Big undertaking. I'd like to see some other angles...I'm curious as to the Hood...got to have a few lines to balance things out...
