Been doing great lately. Infusions are going great, no side effects, been doing a lot of running around. Just waiting on others to get their act together. Hate being at the mercy of others.

Car is getting the cracked driver's widow replaced. Dropped it off last Sunday, they ordered in glass and the wrong color showed up when it got here. Mine is clear. he ordered clear and they shipped green. Just got the clear yesterday, he's got it apart and ready to cut, was just waiting on the correct glass to show up. Hoping to get it back Monday or Tuesday.

Only thing left to do is put the outside mirror on since it's required for state inspection. Trying to get a date for that inspection. Get that done and the paint shop is ready to take it in.

Sorting paperwork that the state needs to see. Getting all that paperwork in order to pass inspection.
Still moving forward, just nothing to show!

    It's ready for inspection!

Got it home from the glass shop yesterday afternoon. Nice job fixing the cracked driver's window. Spent some more time today adjusting the glass to keep the fuzzies in the track tighter against the window. He helped it a lot but was afraid to go any further with it. I wasn't, so I shimmed the track out a bit more and it works even better.

Put the wiper blade on the Rain Gear wiper and actually tried running like it has to go thru inspection. Sprayed a little water on the windshield and everything works as it should.

Mounted the outside mirror. Have to have 2 mirrors for state inspection.

Put in the seat belts. Simple lap belts. That's what I need to pass so that's what it got. Used 60" belts and they are none too long. Enough for adjustment but if you are much bigger around than I am you should step up to 72". I guessed and got lucky.

Tightened all the suspension bolts again. Everything is working great. Drove it a little yesterday evening and lights are adjusted pretty close (not sweating it a lot because they are coming off after inspection for final paint).

Pulled the rear license plate off. Been using it to do my test drives. It's from my '55 I sold 2 years ago. Never drove on it so it was fresh and unused. Wife doesn't think they will take that excuse.

Making the call tomorrow to set the time and date for the inspection. Wednesday is lab/doctor/infusion day.

We got 4" of snow up here last night. Did you get some? Does it affect your inspection transport? Just put some snows on the rear?

We got less than an inch. Cold and windy but not much snow to deal with. Heater works great, I'll just drive it to inspection if it's not too far away. They will issue a permit to drive to inspection.

Inspection schedule for Thursday morning! Swapped on some taller front tires to help with my headlight height. Still 1/4” low, might have to turn on the charm to get past that part.

Drove to the local grain elevator to weigh it this morning. 2380# and only 10° out. Ran some errands today with the bigger front tires to make sure nothing rubs.

Spent the rest of the day sorting paperwork. Lots of paperwork.

Hopefully we get through everything Thursday.

Had a great day! Major progress today.

First, loaded the '32 on the trailer this morning and left home around 8:45 to head off to the inspection. Got my IDOT inspection done. Passed with flying colors, absolutely no concerns. Got my VIN Number assigned.

    VIN.jpg

Second, when I got back from the inspection I stopped at the Treasurers office. My new VIN was in the system, they glanced at my financial records, figured my plate fees and taxes and got my Title and Registration along with my new plates. No more driving around on the old expired plates from my '55.

Third, walked across the street to my insurance agent and got the car insured. Can't do the actual Agreed Value policy until it's completely finished (paint and upholstery) so right now it's insured like any daily driver. At least it's insured now if something happens. Was back home with all the paperwork done, filed and paid for by 12:30. The joys of small town living, no lines anywhere.

Everything is all legal with the State of Iowa now. Seems like a long time coming. In reality it was a pretty fast build to get to this point. I'm 1 week from being exactly 2 years since I picked up the frame at Pete and Jakes.

Little bit of body work over the next week or so then it's off to paint!

As a bonus, I found my car keys that disappeared Sunday. We had looked everywhere, twice. They were in a pill box. Somebody named Dianne put the partial boxes of pills in the cupboard but I'm not pointing fingers......I think she's trying to keep me from driving her car. Gotta watch that one.

    Thanks.

Now the last of the door gap work and a couple little spots on the windshield opening to address then it's back to the painter's shop. Hopefully it's in his hands by the end of next week so we can finish the paint work!

Decided since the weather was nice the 32 needed to get some miles on it. Drove to the paint shop (35 miles), then to a friend’s shop (50 miles) then back home. Total of 98 miles with no problems. The little roller 302/C4 combo is getting right at 20 MPG. Still needs a bit more carb work (it’s rich).

Got back home and decided the windshield opening wasn’t going to fix itself. Out came the dash and windshield. Before removing the windshield I made templates of each side where the top corners needed some filler work to give the seal a place to rest. Then made a pair of aluminum filler plates to define the work needed and stuffed the gaps with kitty hair. Now to regular body filler and do a bit of finish work.

One little low spot behind the right door then it can go back to the paint shop for final paint work.

Finished the windshield seal area except a couple pinholes. Fits the hole much better now.

Started stripping the lights and glass so it can go to the paint shop next Wednesday.

Dropped the windshield frame at the chrome platers this afternoon.

Put it together, take it apart.

More A pillar work today. I know I’ve obsessed over these but if it looks wrong it’s wrong. With the top corners brought in it all became clear today. The area just behind the ledge that the seal seats on was bow shaped. Probably from the 1950’s chop on the original steel car to make the posts line up.

Solution was simple once I saw the problem. Add 1/8” width at the front edge and almost 3/16 at the back where it steps in again (at the worst area). Tapered to nothing at each end. Cut a 1/4”x8-1/2” (the gasket ledge should be 1/4” wide from all my measurements and the real cars I looked at) strip of steel to be my straight edge from the bottom up to where the curve starts at the top. Taped it in place and added a little filler behind it to make the area straight. Came out pretty decent, a few pinholes to fill but nothing drastic. Improved the area 100%. I may finally be happy with the area.

Also added a plenum to the front of the heater to control the air flow better. Let’s me direct more air towards the driver, less at the passenger and, best of all, if I close both vents it forces all the air out the defroster.

Came to my senses yesterday and realized next Thursday was thanksgiving. That means the car won’t go back to the paint shop until December 3rd. Kind of depressed about that.

Speaking of depressed, I went back into AFIB yesterday so back on the blood thinners. My BP had been creeping up and I was maxed out on the strengths of a couple pills so it’s time to regroup. On a new BP regime as of Wednesday night. They think the Avastin (my cancer drug) is causing the AFIB. We know it’s what is pushing my BP up time after time. 3 weeks until the final decision comes down. Looks like we’ll be switching cancer drugs again. What fun we are having now!

    Part 2 for the day.

Cut the mounting lugs off the backside of a set of rubber door bumpers, taped them in place and trimmed them to fit each location. That lets me do the final gap work on the doors.

Blocked the left side from cowl to door and door to quarter. Needed a tiny sliver filled at the front of the door and a larger area on the quarter behind the door. Very minimal depth. Was shocked it was that close since the body was sitting on a cart and not bolted to the frame when I roughed it in. Also no door bumpers were in place then. Couple skim coats of filler, a few rounds of sanding and they came out absolutely great!

Tomorrow I’ll start the right side. Hoping it’s as close as this side was.

Almost done with my body work. Still have a few pinholes to deal with in the windshield opening but other than that I’m done!

Today it was the right door shut lines and gaps. Cut/ground/shaped the door bumpers to get a nice fit. Blocked across the cowl to door and door to quarter gaps. This side was closer than the left side was. Just shows how stiff these bodies are. Roughing it all in without the body on the frame and no door bumpers in place and nowhere needed more than a thin or thick skim coat.

After the shut lines were fixed I corrected a few door gap issues. Around a 1/16” off on the top half of the right door going down the backside was the worst spot.

Nice shut lines and gaps, what more could you ask for??

Next up is the windshield opening pinholes and I’m ready to turn it over to the professionals. It’s been a long ordeal but as of now I’m really happy with how it looks. Truth is in the shiny stuff though.

Last of the work in the door jambs. Little filler in some “dents” that were in the original body (that’s my guess). Found a few pinholes when I removed a little more material in the B pillars. Also working the last of the pinholes in the windshield area.

Last time dropping it off at the paint shop!

As smooth as I can get it. They think a single coat of high build will fix any scratches in it. Still a little body work needed on the sides of the grille shell and a couple small dings on the hood that they will be fixing. I have a bit of work to do on the garnish moldings.

They will call me when they want to disassemble or assemble and I’ll run down and help with that.

    Getting serious now!

Spent most of the afternoon working at the painter's shop.

They parked it in the main final work bay just outside the paint booth last night. By time I got the message this morning they were going to work on it they had both doors, the hood and trunk lid off. I went down and stripped things to the bare bones and removed the grille shell then pulled the insert from the grille shell, cowl vent and door jambs cleaned out, trunk latches, rubber bumpers, etc. They have already sanded everything again, found a couple little "dings" by a couple door hinges and have the doors and trunk lid ready for final primer. Discussed a lot of issues with the painter and finalized everything. He had already found the low spot I've been struggling with on top of the right quarter and other than that spot he found nothing with the main body that needed any more work. He hopes to have everything except the hood and grille shell in primer by Friday afternoon.

They are happy with what I delivered and I'm happy they found a few issues I had been struggling with to correct. We're all on the same page and things are moving forward. They have so many parts on order for "deer hits" they are waiting on another shipment of parts and I just happen to be ready to fill that down time for them. Finally lucked out!

Should finish the last of the garnish molding work tonight. The back window molding was absolutely the worst piece of this entire build. Full of air voids, cracks and just poor overall shape. Only piece I feel shouldn’t have made it to the public. If I would have started on this piece first I doubt I would have worked on the other 4 moldings. My other 4 combined didn’t have the issues the back window molding had.

Going to drop these at the painter’s shop in the morning so they can shoot them with high build when they shoot the other parts. This is the last of the paint puzzle.

Got a call this afternoon that the windshield frame chrome is done! Dropped it off a couple weeks ago and they estimated 8 to 10 weeks to get it back. This was a real surprise.

Curious did they title it as a '32 Ford?

It's titled as a "1932 Ford Model 18 2 door coupe". Regular Iowa Title with an Iowa assigned VIN number.

Nothing special or odd was added. The insurance company also stated that since Iowa considered it a 1932 Ford they did too, and insured it as such. I was very clear that it was a fiberglass reproduction but that didn't seem to matter to any of them.

Whaaah, whaaah. Try filling the same voids on a steel molding eaten by tin worms. ;) Break out the welder in a can.

    re garnish molding:

Looks like just one QC glitch on an otherwise high-quality body.
I just got word they are starting on my 5-window. I'll definitely inspect that part when it's done.
Yours is looking awesome; can't wait to see it with final paint.

Windshield frame is back from chrome! Looks great. Dropped it and the windshield off at the glass guys shop to get the glass glued in.

Body was almost ready for high build primer last Friday when I dropped off the garnish moldings. Things are looking great and moving along well.

Update, while typing this I got a picture from the body shop, body is in high build!

Painted the steering wheel to match the dash. First couple pics are the stock light green/white Con2R steering wheel (as purchased) and the rest are the painting and finished product in the darker green. Looks much better now.

Headed to the Oncologist tomorrow for a whole day of tests, scans and decisions on future treatment.
