I bought a stainless steel radiator recovery tank the other day. It was way to blingy so I gave it a sand to make it a bit more industrial looking. The next problem was it was to big to fit on the track nose so I fabbed up a few brackets and mounted it on the motor.

 

Nice job on the louvers! Like icing on a cake.

 

Are you sure you want to run that fuel line that close to the exhaust manifold? Also there should be a sheet metal heat shield between the manifold and fuel pump. There is a template for a stock equivalent on the P 15 - D24 website either in the resource section or in the down loads area.

 

I'll try it and see what happens. No hood sides and those killer louvers will dissipate all the heat.

Several folks had mentioned and I thought as well with the radiator sitting lower than the head I will get an airpocket in the cooling system. My thought was to get and inline radiator cap from speedway and install it in the top hose but I didnt have room to do that. I improvised by making a bung with a 1/4 pipe plug welded in the thermostat housing. Now I should be able to remove the plug and fill the top part of the system although it will be a slow process.

 

An old 1/4" brass ball valve would look cool there!

 

Working in small baby steps. Today after work I got my brake light wired. I had a small l.e.d. light left over from a motorcycle build so I thought I would hide it under the clear parking lens. I know led’s aren’t traditional but maybe I won’t get run over.

 

...Well that is just beyond Spiffy, Rusty...

 

I like it. You've got that perfectly good lens sitting there, makes sense to put it to use.

 

Texting and driving isn't traditional either so I think that more than cancels out LED bulbs and 3rd tail lights.

 

Love the 'Third light' (er, 'second one'!) Being that the Art-Deco stamping of the parking-light fairing matches the stainless trim of the '46 'fender'...Consider nickel plating the fairing to match?

With your strong fab work, I can see a funnel with a threaded end that screws into that, making fill ups and burping much easier.

I picked a color for the car! I originally was going to roll on Rustolium but I couldn’t get a shade I liked in there very limited color palette. I settled on a cheap Martin senior single stage. It is just a universal color but I’m going to call it It-L-Do maroon. I shot one photo in natural light and one with the sun shining in the window.

It sure will. Getting so close to firing this thing up.

 

Made a bracket for the fuse panel and got it mounted up under the dash the other night also got the brake light switch wired and routed wires to the taillight through old cloth loom.

 

Today I hope I got the last piece of my puzzle. I picked up an early dodge kick starter. My motor had a push button auto behind it but I used a 40 dodge pickup trans and flywheel I couldn’t get the auto trans starter to mesh with the standard flywheel so I’m hoping the old stomp starter will work. Plus the stomp starter is a lot smaller. Now to fab up a push button.

 

The automatic probably has a thicker driveshaft flange to support the extra weight of the tq compared to the standard clutch setup. One person solved the problem by having the bell housing machined to allow for full engagement. If your earlier starter does not do the trick, you may have to consider that. He put a DeSoto engine that was set up for fluid drive in front of a standard using the 48 Plymouth bell housing.

 

I bolted it all up this afternoon, hooked up the jumper cables,pushed the linkage and it engaged and started to roll the motor over. I think I'm golden!

 

I’m going to try and use some Model A brake rod parts for my stomp starter linkage. I have a shift knob that I can thread to the top of the brake rod so I can push it down by hand rather than foot.

 

Will you be able to spring it or devise something to balk incidental or accidental engagement?

 

Still thinking about how it will work, I'm thinking it will be up at the bottom of the dash so it shouldn't get pushed but I should think about some kind of lock out. Thanks for the suggestion.

 

Maybe an offset at the engagement end and a twist T Handle at the top so it only engages when turned to a position meant to engage. Rudimentary theft deterent also.

Then you could do away with keys. Battery isolator, hidden toggle for ignition, single position disguised starter actuator.

 

This is what I came up with for the starter engagement. I don’t think it can get accidentally pushed.

Ha ha! Need to fill trans,rear end,motor and pull some wires(which I'm an absolute moron when it comes to wiring).
