Projects 1956 Pontiac Gasser 389 swap (Finally Running)

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by wvenfield, Oct 29, 2014.

  1. By the way...your whole build is really making me wish I would have kept my 56 Pontiac drag car. Not sure what I was thinking when I sent “Old Injun” up north for next to nothing.

The two tone green car? That was a huge inspiration.

Yep...pulled it out of a barn in Perry, Oklahoma where I work after the owner passed away and his son didn’t want it. I ended up selling it to a guy in Peoria, IL and even hauled it up there. I have pretty much regretted not keeping it ever since.

Not to make it worse but I remember when that car was first posted here and I thought OMG! I loved it. But I've long been a Pontiac fan.

  5. Lol...yea, I was actually building a 64 GTO drag car when I owned that 56. I was pretty into Pontiacs for quite a while too...

Gotta love any poncho powered ride. Especially a poncho powered gasser.

  11. Polish those M/Ts up and they'll shine! MTcovers.jpg

  12. Looks like the factory purposely left a spot for the moon fuel tank in between the front bumper. Gotta luv the styling!![IMG]

  13. Ever since I rode with scatterbrains in his 59 GMC that had the 336 removed and a 60 -389 four BBL engine swapped in. Ive had a thing for Pontiac engines. My uncle bought a new 62 catalinia with a dual quad 421 and 4 speed. and ive been adding to my Pontiac collection for a long time. Ive been seriously thinking about installing a a Pontiac engine in the 55 that's in my avatar.

My buddy put my old 316 into his 55 Nomad............Now I love Pontiac but......it took a lot to do that. Going with the MT's he will get my stock covers.

  15. I have a 69 400 engine and 4 speed. I think I can use my scattershield Bell housing and bolt to the stock tri five rear mounts. My scattershield had both the chevy and BOP engine pattern. and has a provision to mount the starter on the passenger side.

What is the dilemma? They run great. Have one off a 66 389 hi po. Factory set up still with the Muncie m22 behind it. Just not the 389 block anymore. Kaboom.

I own that car now, it’s in the process of being turned into more of a race car...

  24. Good deal. It was rough and pretty crude when I had it. The price was right though at the time. Glad to hear it is getting some love.

I don’t think it’s super rough, but it’s getting some much needed attention and will have some fun with it!

Nobody is more anxious than I. Fuel lines finished, finished today. I have the plug wires etc in the front seat. We will decide on where to place the battery and then hopefully we can give it a go. Stupid bad spot in my work schedule right now so..................(retire some time first of the year).
