Hello all, Brand new on the forum. I'am David from France and i've just bought a lincoln capri 1957. Don't how many of them are un France but seems to be rare. One push causes the motor in the radio to start moving the tuning- once the AGC circuit is activated by a sufficiently strong signal, it would stop. At least, I believe that is the way the system worked. In essence the way a modern radio works with "auto-seek". Pretty neat system for the fifties. I think GM offered a similar system in their Buick and Cadillac ranges. --Phil

The chassis number should be on a plaque located on the left front body pillar, either above ,or between where the door hinges mount to the body. For more information I would suggest googling " 1957 Lincoln number plate : location & decoding" decoding. I have never seen a motor number on a Lincoln "Y-Block"('52 - '57), so I don't believe they were used as they relied on the chassis number for identification & registration purposes.

David, Beautiful Lincoln. I saw it when it was for sale in UK about 2 years ago. As others have said, that button is for the town and country functions on the radio. When selected to Town, the radio motor would seek and stop on strong signals, when selected to country, the radio motor would stop on both strong and weak signals. The Vin number is located in 3 spots. The data plate on the driver's A-pillar between the door hinges, the body plate on the firewall (either in the area just under the coil or sometimes on the driver's side above the brake booster), and on the top of the frame on the passenger side, just in front of the body and near the starter solenoid. I collect information regarding 57 Lincolns and if you would please PM me a picture of your dataplate I would appreciate it. I have many pictures of your car from when it was for sale a few years ago, but not the dataplate information. I know of a few 57 Lincoln's in Germany, but none in France. I believe only 2973 of the 57 Capri Coupes were produced compared to the 15185 Premiere Coupes. Which means your car is technically rarer than the convertibles of that year, with 3676 Convertibles produced. It makes sense, though, if you were a new buyer and spending a lot of $ for the Lincoln that year, why not spend a bit more and get the higher trimmed model which came with Power Windows standard. I have actually seen and have photos if you'd like, of a Capri coupe that was optioned with the 6 way power seat, Air Con, and power windows. Best of luck with your new purchase.
