  3. Used Motors Manuals and Hollanders manuals, picked friend's brains, read magazines, attended hot rod runs, joined a car club and prayed a lot.

Aways had 60s and early 70s Gm cars my whole life. Pretty easy to work on and most had 350 small blocks and Turbo 350 transmissions. Always had friends to help with anything I didn't know. But the first thing I did when I got my first Ford Hot Rod with a Flathead was joined the HAMB and I'm glad I did. Also I don't know what I'd do without the help from the guys over at Terminal Velocity in Londonderry NH. I've never seen them not have a good answer for anything I need. If you're in the area definitely check them out with all you restoration and performance needs.

Went to B'Ville, Fremont Drags, (then in later years, 'Old time Drags') back and forth from San Jose to L.A. and points south for 'All things hot rod'...
Opened a shop to build and repair hot rods, built some more of my own.
Moved here (Central Calif.) in '89, then shortly after, discovered the HAMB.
Great timing...for a while there, thought it was 'all over'. Not everyone hereabouts speaks 'Hot Rod'...Some think they speak it, but their dialect is infused with late Chevrolet.
Thank the gods and Ryan for the HAMB.

It was definitely the magazines that were the major influence. Got a lot of information there but I have to say that the H.A.M.B. is great because it gives more ideas from more sources. Before, I would read about something like "hammer welding" accompanied by a few photos and try to do it. Now I see all these major craftsmen online and see just how good they are. There is also a lot of bad information, - sometimes from me, but you just have to sort it out.

I asked my dad...still do. He’s been playing with cars since he waa 13 and got up early one Saturday and spent the morning taking all the trim off his fathers 58 caddy cause he thought it looked cool blanked out. Grandpa didn’t think so and dad spend the afternoon of the same day putting all the trim back on.

That happened in one of the Henry Gregor Felson's books.
