I just got a car delivered today with a SBC (pictured). I've never owned a blower motor before and if you can tell me what I've got, I'd appreciate it. It was supposedly raced in the mid 70's...not with the big boys, but for fun. Been sitting for many years. Thanks! 20191104_172038 (2).jpg 20191104_172048 (2).jpg 20191104_172113 (2).jpg

Well it looks like a old 371 GMC blower with the long drive. Interesting and still out there if you are inclined to look.

Wow, you don't see many of those mini blowers compared to the more common 4-71. Double Cragar V-drive and drive snout on an original SBC [Cragar] blower intake. Rare to me! What's the list on the Holley 4b? Does it run?

From the looks of the choke plate that is a three barrel. Holley made them in 950 and 1050 flow ratings.

  5. Cragar blower drives are as traditional as it can get! Choke tower milled off the DP?

wow, that's an oldie! And even has a generator, still.

What are your plans for the car, or the engine? without knowing more about the car it's hard to make any suggestions, but hopefully it'll get out in the public so folks can see it....

  9. Also, those are backward slash M\T valve covers, not M/T. o_O

It does not run. It has been sitting for probably 30 if not more years. Here's a pic of the Holley. 20191105_100729 (2).jpg 20191105_101351 (2).jpg

    Hi Jim.
It will definitely get out into the public. I've got to keep it under wraps for now....working on final paperwork. The block is a V0703JTB. Heads are 340292. I can see valve guides but just got it yesterday and haven't gotten into it.

Well that's cool. Didn't notice that before. Does that date them to a period?

DP=double pumper. The three barrel Holley is a neat carb, don't see them much these days. Notice the vacuum secondary vacuum assembly is larger than on "normal" vacuum secondary Holleys.

The small cable is the link between the choke plate and the mechanical choke linkage seen on the side of the carb.
And as @saltflats said it’s a 1050, the secondary down tubes with no venturi boosters give the extra 100 CFM .

the JTB suffix sounds kind of weird....I'd sure like to see the stamping on the block, and maybe know what the block casting number is.

I suspected it might have the letters transposed.

I have never played with a vac secondary carb on a blower seems like you would have to have one helluva spring in the vac pod or it would be all in whenever the blower was sucking. I guess on a race motor that would not be a bad idea.

Air is air....I doubt it would ever open the secondary all the way, judging from the size of the blower.

    But I could be wrong.

  29. I would not try to start it until you fixed and replaced a few things.
The power valves, secondary diaphragm, you have a fuel leak at the carb line fitting. Make sure the distributor advance is freed up. Lots of rare pieces.

Never had a three barrel but I'd sure be nervous about that little crimp end on that choke cable coming loose and going through the blower.
