  2. I'm Australian, so I dunno what Haloween is.

    But I know draw-pull knob grilles!;

    These are rim anchors off floor toms & kick drums from old drum kits. I found some of these old toms on the roadside and for low bucks in garage sales. There are 16 of 'em on a kick (bass) drum. 12 on a tom. Yes, they have an ugly hole, but I can live with that (the symettry overides it for me)..
    They have a double philips screw mount on the back. Easy- peasy.

    And frosty plastic grilles.

    OK, go out & scare people...

  19. These are the panels that are being donated to the Chemung Valley Street Rods Christmas Charity auction. A Huge Thank You to C B Zeke pinstriping for the awesome work on the first two panels. This as a joint project I did the metal fab and he did the amazing paint. The rest are all done by me they are custom bead rolled panels.

    50S SCALLOPS AND EARLY FLAMES
    Hello,

    We all grew up trying to be artists. In our elementary school classes we always had ART. It was one of the most fun times other than recess or lunch. We got to be creative as much as we liked. Although, sometimes, our teachers would say that what we did was not art… “But, if you added in…etc, it would be acceptable.” Talk about a blunt nose criticism on your choices…

    So, we trudged on with what we thought was art. Art is in the eye of the beholder and no amount of criticism can change that. Just look at what some people call art in the museums and displays. Whether it is good or bad... or on topic.

    So, our notebooks and assignment papers had scribbles of stuff on them. We could not draw hot rods as kids, very well. But, at least we knew our colored pencils would brighten up any drawings. We also knew that those hot rods from the magazines showed tons of roadsters and coupes with scallops and flames. We started our daily amount of scallops that looked like curvy arrows to more refined edges with our classroom rulers.

    During our handwriting lessons, we noticed that the curvy letter “C” and “S” made nice swoops. If we slanted them over, during the actual handwriting assignments, they began to look like the ones from those hot rod/custom car magazine photos. So, we joined several styles of C and S letters together to make a string of them in a row. Of course it took us months to get a similar look to our scallops and finally early flames.

    After these early flames, the lobster claw came into the picture and that added the newer look to the curvy flames.
