ALL photos and captions come from here: https://www.hotrod.com/articles/hrxp-1107-1960-eric-rickman-vintage-hot-rod-photos/
He was HOT ROD’s chief photographer in the ’50s and ’60s. And here I will put most of his 100 or so photos over time.

Some are the extra large ones if you click on them. Enjoy :)

Very Cool - Thanks - he had a good eye for what shots to take, correct cameras and in the right place at the right time

Any shots of his 'Roving Photog Roadster Pickup'? Eric was one apart, genius in his own right.
    Some 'aliases' were interesting...
    E. Rick Mann, some more I can't recall. But there were a few.
    Great thread, @loudbang. Thanks.

Years ago Kit Car Magazine sent a Cobra replica to my shop for a headers and exhaust article and I was delighted to see that they sent Eric Rickman to shoot photos and take notes. I spent several days with him. He was surprised that I knew who he was but I explained that as a kid I thought he had the best job in the world!
He had dozens of stories but the funniest was his adventures at the Drs office discussing E D options. He will always be one of my top hot rod heroes.

  13. Eric shot the photos of my RPU for Hot Rod. This one is my favorite, but it didn't make it in the magazine.

Stand by some more may be in this batch. They are a pile of shots just found in a bunch of like discards or unknown car owners found after he died. Just getting started on them. :)

Yea it's a strange batch, some are only small versions I have enlarged and some are the huge ones normally found in Hot Rod.

Eric had a template of a HOT ROD cover that he could put on the view finder of a camera so that he could get the right shot without compromising the logo. I think that he was one of Pete's early hires after Tom Medley.

The Petersen has a great site with over 1,000,000 pictures and growing. They all have a water mark but I can't tell you how many hours I've spent there. Great thing is you can do a search and narrow it down a little. You'll see a picture you remember from a mag article and then there will be 15 others of the same car, boat, bike, go kart.... that didn't make the cut.
    They're all dated too

I met Rick at the '98 CHHR, had him sign my Roaring Roadsters book, on the page with a 15 photo action sequence, he shot at Oakland in July of '48. Had a great visit with him. 2014-11-03 201132.jpg
