Technical What did you do today?

Sun came out just long enough to run a couple errands

 

I redid my ladder so it folds flat on the wall without interfering with the brick pillar, I missed by a few inches when I initially installed it.
Then I drove around with my headers uncorked running errands, lots of thumbs ups.

 

At 830am, it was below freezing, frost on the ground, but sun was out and it was dry. Took the coupe out to meet some buddies for regular Saturday breakfast. Got home, and before I drove into garage, I replaced the Deuce frame drivers side rail to its storage location above the parking stall. I had it down earlier in the week, to see if I could find the serial number on it. I did, so at least I'll have the number, when I find project body for the frame, and I have to go to provincial office to get it registered.

 

Yesterday I went to a auction. Bought 4 235-65 -16 like new B F Goodrich tires mounted on Mercedies rims. Today I pulled them from the rims and mounted them on the rims from my wifes Ot Jeep Cherokee. I got two on the front of the car. have to finish installing the rear tires on the Jeep. At present she has two 15 inch chevy pickup ralley wheels with mud grips on the rear.

 

Found an original 32 horn. Tore apart, cleaned, painted and got it making noise again.

 

Got the rear bumper shaped up and the mounting tubes mocked up. Now it's decision time, on how to trim and cap the ends, before welding it together.

 

Worked on cleaning up the cad 390 parts that I drove 375 miles yesterday to pick up...My friends are starting to give me crap for just not putting one of my sbc's in it...

 

Today I put the final touches on the trunk of the 53 Ford. New divider panel, side panels, mat and the final piece: a hubcap from my first 54 Ford Mainline business coupe that I sold in 1977, now on the spare tire/wheel. A piece of that car will ride with me every time the 53 rolls!

 

helped my engineer mate replace 8 valve springs on 350 Chev
with 3 to go the valve spring tool broke so back tomorrow to finish job

 

Cleaned the GMC 302 and crankshaft for the last time. Ready to start assembly.

 

Waiting to board a plane to Oakland and looking at the magazine shelve at the airport. Picked up Hot Rod and thumbed through it.
What hot rod? Did not see much of anything relevant.

Drove my new 1948 Chrysler Windsor Highlander convertible over to a fellow club member's garage to check on his progress with his recently acquired 1933 Chevy coupe.
His skill and speed at updating and building a car or truck is amazing. He is absolutely our go to guy when you want to do something NOW. Great personality, too!

 

Cleaned up and straightened the rear panel trim for the Galaxie. Sometime in the past, something was spilled onto the left side piece that ate the anodized finish off. Crappy looking, but maybe I can get it looking better.

 

Here is a little item that should make your life easier when you need to drain down your compressor tank. If you've got room to bleed the air now you can install this in minutes and never have to crawl down in the hole again.

The other benefit is that you can purge the water every day instead of putting it off for weeks at a time. You're welcome!

 

Bought or really saved a 1943 GPW a months or so back and took it to a container bound for England over the weekend. It was so sweet not much of anything had been done or taken off of it - except for the angle iron bumpers.? It was also still wearing two of its two-piece artillery wheels which most were tossed out and scraped.

 

Man, I love those flat fenders...

Holey-moley

 

After work I finished up the repair job on an American original Torque Thrust wheel that came to me with egged-out mounting holes. All better now. Been thinking of maybe posting a thread on how I did the repair job...maybe tomorrow. Camera angle makes some of the holes appear to be out of round....they're not.

 

Pulled the motor and trans out of my project.
After I drained a couple gallons of water out of them.

 

Welding up some new stair rail for the casa. Re-re-rebuilt engine is back in the Stude, looks like it's right this time. Gotta get out and do some testing.

 

Drove 4 hours to visit a life long friend in the hospital, car guy all his life, old school body and fender man, not doing well, may have to go into extended care after the hospital is done with him. Its fucken shitty watching your friends deteriorate, guys with real talent reduced to rubble because of shitty things like parkinsons, the work Frank did was magic. He rebuilt my 36 fenders from scrap to beautiful, he always said he was just a hacker, but what a hacker, amazing stuff came out of his shop. 4 hours each way, but worth it, to see an old friend.

Ran some errands and picked up a new freezer.

 

Im enjoying today. Its piss poor weather. cloudy ,cold & windy. However it finally stopped raining and I got the wood stove putting out plenty of heat. My joints don't hurt today.

 

Ive got one of those in my hoard. Its been modified to accept a small block chevy engine and auto trans.
