Hot Rods Rim colour with unpainted cars.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by keith27T, Oct 27, 2019.

  1. Was going through the cars for sale and came across this panel.
And am liking the yellow rims on the panel.
Anyone else have pictures of rims on cars that are a little different?
Oh,and hope the owner of this panel is okay with me using his picture. 54 chevy 058.JPG

Yea, are you referring to the "rim" or the whole "wheel"..?
    They are...two different things.

  5. I don't know, but in this picture , we can see that the panel truck owner knows that the wheels look a whole lot better all painted up ,with shiny hub caps and clean whitewalls. Therefore, wouldn't the whole truck look better with the same attention?
There's your proof that this patina things is just a fad that will pass.
This is just the monochromatic pink body with turquoise graphics, tweed interior 80's car , in a different form.
Carry on... rims vs. wheels etc.

Maybe yellow would work if the tires were black ...

On my wagon you can see a little of the rim around the outside of the wheel cover (notice I didn’t call them hubcaps).
    I painted the rims white,
It makes the rim appear larger and contrasts the black tire and shiny cover.[IMG]

You'll notice the lettering on the panel is yellow along with some of the patina on the front and rear fenders. The yellow wheels pick up on that.

Geez, give the guy a break

I agree with Mark Yac. Light blue is about the only color that will make it look like it was "planned that way" I think a contrasting color will look too much like you just took them off another car. JMO

RIM VS WHEEL? What the hell are you guys talking about? In my part of the world the "rim" is the metal part consisting of a "band" and a "center". The tire is the rubber thing...and when you put a tire on the rim it becomes a...you guessed it... a usable wheel

Winter's coming, cabin fever is starting to break out....you should all come visit the southern hemisphere, summer is almost here.

  26. I’ve actually thought about doing that lifestyle. An endless spring and summer and all you gotta do is move 1/2 way around the world. Fall is ok for a couple weeks.
The problem is my wife won’t do it.

Listen, it's your car, and at the end of the day you're building it for you. Some people around here choose to make mountains out of mole hills and you will never please everyone on the HAMB. If you go this route that you are thinking, I would suggest at least some sort of whitewall and a wheel cover. Color wise, even an off white or something of the like would look good with the current color. Good luck on your endeavor, and remember, keep this hobby fun. Screenshot_20191025-121357.jpeg

Black or gray steel wheels on an unfinished (rusty, patina) or primered car.

Anything else (red, orange, yellow, green, blue) indicates you're soon going to (or should) paint the car. Used to be when you saw a primered car with brightly painted steel wheels, the car had been "jambed" and the dash and window garnish were painted the intended body color as a preview of things to come. The car was usually on a shakedown run and going to be blown apart for paint come Winter. Now a lot of guys seem to order a set of powder coated wheels and call it quits.
