No I'm sorry. It was to nice to be a race car. Black with a red interior and straight as an arrow. Low mileage car. Stock OEM shifter. I never ran it once down a drag strip. 3.50 gears and non posi rear.

No sorry don't remember the MPH but it wasn't very fast LOL. BUT it must have had Highway gears because I was in a "surprise" street race with a brand new 1967 390 4 speed cougar. He came out of the blue and just blew my doors off but I figured I would stay with him on the looonng straight after our favorite 1/4 mile. Surprisingly enough I was beginning to catch him at high speed like 115-120 and sure enough eventually I passed him. He gave a friendly wave and shot me the finger.

Later on at our hangout he came over to talk and I had not talked to him before because he was one of the "top dogs" in town and he did well at street drags and I was just a beginner. Like I thought he was running 4:11s and ran out of gear on a big top end blast. He was good about and said kid you have got some balls to stay with it at them speeds. We became "buddies" after that. :)

Yes, I tried to contact the person who had it for sale on Racingjunk a few years back but never got a reply. I always figured it had sold. Worked out for the best because I ended up with Kyle Marshall's 57.
Still would like to see this one restored though.

Jim Hale is one of the most enduring players in Sportsman Drag Racing history. This is the top one-fourth of the qualifying sheet in Stock Eliminator at the most recent NHRA national event. Jim is a fierce competitor and he can be expected to show up at events from coast-to-coast, towing with a HUGE motorhome and a deluxe enclosed trailer. He's living the dream!!

Chuck, the guy who owns the number 2 qualifier, Jim Lewis, use to work for Jim Hale back in the 80’s.

Perchance, do you mean the Jim Lewis who was formerly mayor of Vian, Oklahoma? Jim is an exceptionally talented engine builder. I've used his cylinder heads on several stockers during the modern era. About 15 years ago, I stopped at the offramp of I40 on the southern edge of Vian to hand off a set of head cores for his attention. He was considerate enough to meet me at the Interstate so that I could avoid towing a 52' trailer though town. Jim is a colorful individual, without question.

    That is him.
He did several of my 396/375 motors before I stopped racing.
And yes he is quite colorful.
