Briwax is a blend of beeswax and carnauba wax and is fairly easy to remove, get the clear. Boiled linseed oil thinned with solvent is essentially a varnish and will build up after several applications.

    Hello,

I have always liked trucks, since seeing one, fabulous, custom Ford truck in our Westside of Long Beach neighborhood as a little kid. It was my first introduction to a real, live, custom truck…a great Tahitian Red paint, chromed reversed wheels, white tuck and roll, lowered, and an unusual radical chop. To the owner, it was his daily driver. We used to see it sitting out in front of his store almost daily. We also saw it at our neighborhood Mobil Gas Station, in the mechanics area, getting something done or tuned on the way to and from elementary school daily.

As we got older, our needs changed from a two seater truck to 4 seat sedans and station wagons. But, the truck idea for my wife and I, fell into a 1965 El Camino I had during my college years. It was something to stash tons of household stuff and moving stuff in the back that was so handy. Then the custom Harley Sportster fit right into the back with ease, too, when a tow/trailering was necessary.

My first photo essay was with a Candy Apple 1952 Chevy truck I saw on the street one day and the owner was cruising this cool truck as his daily driver. I took photos of the truck by the ocean, made tons of prints, gave them to the owner and submitted the photo story to the editors of several magazines. At the time, each editor had “roadsters” on the mind and no one wanted to feature a truck vs. a roadster. So, the photos eventually disappeared.

As far as a shop truck in 1959-60 for my brother and me, a sedan delivery would have been OK. But, it would have to be built up just like the Willys Coupe we were building, despite the stock Flathead. So, a larger 55-57 Ford panel truck would have fit the bill, with a few customizing upgrades. Plenty of room in the back, and power to tow a Willys 671/SBC Gas Coupe to various dragstrips in So Cal and for the future road trips across the USA.

Our experience with the 1965 El Camino was so much fun, that a real old truck with a high performance motor and trans was considered for our next hot rod cruiser. But, somehow, another 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery came on the family scene and took over for our daily driver. The truck idea never surfaced, again, until recently. My wife was getting into reading about Wyoming, Colorado and Montana as a possible relocation center for the future. Despite growing up in So Cal, the mountains, plains and river areas appealed to her.

She saw a greyish color, Raptor and decided that it would be our next purchase if…IF we ever moved to those states. That is a big IF…

As far as a cool daily driver that we have seen many times along the coastal cities, this custom, old, Chevy truck had all of the great running ideas and looks that would appeal to all of us. It just had “the Look” and sound of a cool cruiser as well as a daily driver, work truck. It certainly would fit in our two car garage in an instant. Plus, we would still be able to transport our granddaughter to her rehearsals and high school, in that wide cab. (and look cool doing those fun things…)

My '53. Not necessarily a shop truck, but I use her like a truck when necessary.
