I agree the stance on the car in 2700 above is spot on for the mid 60s, IMO. The car in 2699 is Dick Taylor's great running 57. The black 61 with silver coves is a Nickey build. I believe that car was on eBay maybe 2 weeks ago but not sure if it sold. I really like the car but I may have to ask Doug if the front wheels are appropriate. A few years ago I ran into one of the guys from Nickey at the Meltdown and I seem to remember he told me that one guy bought six 61 builds but sold most of them.
This is a shot of my 59 in about 1973 or 4. It was taken at Irwindale Raceway and ended up in an issue of Drag News. I primarily raced at Lions and occasionally Orange County. I would have been about 22 or 23 then...long time ago. It had a Hilborn injected 427 and ran 10:20's It's the only photo I can find of this car. They mangled my name in the caption. It's Tony Cortes. I guess my writing wasn't very clear on my sign up sheet I wish I still had that car.
MAN I WOULD LOVE TO SEE MORE OF THAT CAR. IT IS PROBABLY A NCRS TOP FLITE CAR NOW. ALL NUMBERS MATCHING OF COURSE
^^ And that's fine. I'm just not big on ripping on the guys that do restore them. The auto hobby is a better place because of those that have spent time and money on restorations. You might want to clock a few for their attitudes but you have to appreciate the cars.
I fully appreciate restored old vettes, original unrestored even more. But when guys take cool old race cars or customs and make them look like the pictures in the dealer brochures it irks me a bit. I spend some time lurking on a Corvette forum and I have to laugh at some of the guys who spend hundreds of dollars on bolts with correct markings on the heads. I've seen aircleaner wingnuts for a couple hundred dollars, oil pan drain plugs for $150. They will switch engine blocks in a good running engine to get one that is closer to the right date for their car, still not original tho. These are the guys I make fun of. At the end of the day vettes are just old Chevy's.
The 57 has had three vette motors in it. It lost it original mill in the mid 60’s, Dad said he left it in a rental garage he moved out of!
Yes but most of them are only one or two photos. I find a lot of stuff looking around for something else so they end up here in many threads.
This car was probably scrapped, or hopefully it was restored, but if I found it like this today, I'd leave it just like that. HAMB Drags here I come!
My stepdad found a great 8.5x11 glossy of the Pink Panther with its wheels up. Didn't see it posted here yet.
It may say "Super Vette" but it is neither a Corvette or a gasser. The body appears to have started life as one of the Logghe sports car bodies and the lack of front brakes along with the fact that the driver is sitting in the trunk makes it more likely that this car ran as an altered. Roo
And to think I thought the "Super Vette" was a real factory built Corvette. Special optioned rear seating. LB, you really pulled the fiberglass over my eyes. Nothing like misleading people.
