Technical What to cover my floors in

Getting ready to tear into my merc.

I want to clean and detail the engine compartment. Remove some stuff clean up the area etc.

also the chassis and floors.
Usually I scrape, sand , wire brush and clean.
The spray the frame semi gloss black
And hit the floors with rubberized rocker cover.
Then all new brake and fuel lines run my cooler lines etc.
I’m the only one who sees under the car, but I’m like most, if not all of you guys I like a nice clean and organized chassis.

my question is should I use the rubberized undercoating I always use.

I see a lot of diy spray on bed liner stuff

or something else?

This car is not a show car by any stretch but it’s a solid clean driver

 

Depends what kind of weather you drive it in I suppose?

 

Spring , summer , fall.
No snow
Only if I get caught will it get driven in the rain.
I do drive it a lot
But it’s also not my only car.

 

Just guessing here as I'm in another climate than you, but if it's painted and just rain,not salt, I would think paint would be ok. Maybe spray under it if you get caught in the rain

 

My Brother in Michigan couldn't believe how clean my Mom's 2000 Mazda was underneath, but she lived here and not up there

 

I put POR15 on mine, top and bottom. Going to put spray on rubberised undercoating on the bottom sooner or later. Top got Peal and Seal, old carpet for now, new carpet later on.

 

I thought we couldn't talk politics or climate change on the HAMB...

 

Here in Arizona we can get away with using lacquer primer, like they came with in the 60s. This one has over 20k miles, and 5 years, on it. I guess things might be different up there, though. I've driven this up to Wisconsin a couple times in the fall, but didn't spend much time there.

 

Some undercoating will pull loose after time and trap moisture in behind it. I'd use POR15.

 

I imagine anything you use will help preserve it integrity if not driving in the winter time. I always thought as a kid in the '70's it was funny that in Ontario, you had rust holes and such, but you ride down I90 in New York and their quarters would be flapping in the breeze literally.

 

I've used spray-on bed liner with good results.........driving in conditions you described. It ain't permanent but easily touched up every ten years or so!
