The trucks are like the old country music song, the girls get prettier at closing time, you got to be drinking to see the beauty in both. o_O

Chromed bars sure make a difference!

I always wondered how a '41 car nose would look on one.

My uncle gave me a real nice 1947 in 1969, I was 16 years old, I got ahold of a 255 cu. in. Mercury engine and installed. I saw a 47 Mercury 3 ton farm truck sitting in a farmers yard, he agreed to sell me all the chrome on it for $10.00! I made that plain ugly Ford into Mercury and thought it looked much better.

Here's one a buddy picked up, If imagejpeg_0.jpg he finishes it I think it will look Great! He has a tendency buy, sell, barter.

I always liked the side profile of these trucks, but the grille kind of uglified them, in my own opinion. I found this on the web a few years ago, and really liked it. 47 truck with a 46 through 48 car front grille treatment. 47ford.jpg

  21. They are kinda like a ugly dog you ether love them or hate them, I've always been a sucker for a ugly mutt. :D HRP

That makes a huge difference and looks like something Henry should have done, similar in some ways to the mercury pick with the horizontal bright work, but the Ford passenger sheet metal looks better IMHO with less bars in the grill and the headlights mounted in the fender. HRP

I completely agree. The car grille looks a lot less bulky hanging off the front of the truck than the Mercury grille does.

I consider Jim Porter's one of the sweetest of these trucks.

I was never terribly attracted to this era of Ford trucks until I started going down to the GoodGuys shindig in Pleasanton, Ca. in the late 80's/early 90's.
My Bakersfield pal had a friend with this one, for some reason they started looking pretty good to me.

I actually disagree quite a bit. I feel like the 48 to 50 trucks were the homely ones, and the 51-2 saved the body style. I appreciate the 48-50 more now than when I was younger, but they still look too heavy in the nose.
I do agree that the 40-41 is way nicer than any of the group, though.

When trucks were TRUCKS by jeezus, and weren't afraid to show it.
I can think of uglier cars with no excuse.

Sorry to dig this up. But I own a 46. I have heard rumor thar there wasn't any chrome on these because of the war. Does anyone know if this is correct
