Projects 1946 Ford 1/2 Ton... Attempt

Okay... I’m bad with technology. More or less impatient with it. I have patience for a photo or two sometimes more so to get the full update might take some time. Anyhow, here is an attempt at building a 1946 1/2 ton Ford with a ‘72 8.2 500 Cadillac and TH400 Trans. Here she goes.

Cut and welded on thick sheet metal to make new running boards. Fiberglass on the edges. Seam seal bottom. Primer and chassis black under sides of all panels. Hopefully she’ll look okay when it’s all said and done. This my wife and mine first complete rebuild.

Both lower front cab corners completely separated and all the way across the floor as well. As a result is a beautiful door gap that sags on both sides! Cut the floor out and port-o-power the cab together so the doors can actually open and close!

Step 38 of 5,389....

Remove 2” thick body filler from both cab corners and both doors. Cut out Swiss cheese and weld em up. Just touching the tip of the iceberg here so it’ll take me some time to get us caught up to current date

Props for getting an oldie back on the road. Wow , you apparently have great taste in picking a wife. Pretty special to have a partner that gets involved with you.

 

I’m kind of jumping all over the place here as I find pictures. Wire wheel and chassis black the frame and set in motor and tranny! And don’t worry I have since flipped the axle around so it will steer correctly! Good times

 

I have found It’s a lot more work than it might appear to be haha and She’s pretty awesome in wanting to help at all! she’s more motivated than I am to do it most times haha

High build primer round 1!

 

Whole truck was sandblasted and epoxied before I bought it so tear down and body work was that much easier. Body work on cab front fenders. Primer and paint! WOO! White is cheap so I went with that

 

Clear coated the wood cab mounts before mounting! It’s beginning to resemble a vehicle of some-kind! YAY

My wife did all soundproofing she is the coolest!

Okay again jumping around here on the build



Kind of weird that the 70 year old door pins wouldn’t just slide out with the tap of a hammer but.... sliced out above and below the cab hinge to remove pin. Drill through door hinge and cab hinge so I could have a door that opens and closes! Good times that was



And the 70 year old Phillips head bolt wouldn’t come out either. so weird....

Drilled out and made new backing plates and slotted the cab holes slightly so there is door gap adjustment! All the little silly things.

 

Here’s a couple more pics. Rim and tire combo and the only pick find of the floor and old seats right now! I’m sure I’ll come across a better one.
