Not sure where this belongs, but I recently aquired this old race car door from the estate of a longtime employee of the Joe Anderson Custom Shop in L.A.. I figure if he kept it all these years it may be of some importance. Im just wondering if anyone recognizes what car it may have been on. What make/ model, etc? History of the actual race car would be amazing but thats a long shot. Thanks for any help.
Dang, you guys are right. Oddly enough, I have some paperwork to him from Carroll Shelby. I didnt put 2+2 together
Shelby used AC bodies early on, that looks like an English door latch. May be from an early 289 Cobra. Bob
If that is AC Cobra, you need to track down the guy who had the rear 1/2 of one on here a few years ago.
Here is the Cobra tail section thread https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/cobra-289-competition-car-rear-body-section.1071370/
If the door was installed at AC Cars it will have a chassis number stamped into it under whatever that brown piece is on the door mount bracket. If it was a service replacement there should not be a number stamped there. It could be a ACE, ACE RS2.6, or Cobra door based on frame structure but not a late 427 Cobra door (early maybe).
Turns out the man who owned the door worked for Shelby, and is included in this list of deceased employees.
Run it across the auction block got to be worth a million five at least. Great find and thanks for share the photos and story.
That is super awesome. Even the old number showing through, I hope you can find out what specific car it was on originally.
427 Cobra race chassis CSX3052 it seems, reconstructed after a serious crash. Based on the Registry it was blue at one time. Neat wall decoration.
