Believe it or not the stupidest decision to come out of the current Supreme count has ruled this marking of tires is an ILLEGAL SEARCH because their was physical contact with someones property. It is now illegal for police to mark parked car tires.
A.J. in his first midget ride [L to R: his dad Tony, A.J., Jim Greer (kneeling) & Wayne Biergen]ALLEN HEATH IN THE TRAVERS & COON CHEVY A few photos for the Winchester Album. Turn 4 at Winchester in 1928. Built by Frank Funk in 1914 and opened in 1916. 37 degrees of banking when paved. I bet it was a high maintenance track when it was dirt. Landy Scott in the #17 Studebaker 1957, Sun Prairie Wi.
The first shot shows Tom Cherry's tow rig with his race car. I believe this is the same car that he raced with in the NASCAR Speedway Division winning some races. He later ran his own sanctioning body known as the All American Racing Club (AARC). The next one shows a great advertisement for Coventry Climax. Most race fans didn't realize that their main business was fork truck engines and fire pumps. And the last photo is a mystery. The car certainly looks post WWII and the inner guardrail makes me think this could be at a horse track other than that I have nothing. Are there any details on this one? Thanks, Rootie!!!
I was a little surprised to see an Allard in the Brazil pics. Dunno why, I just was. The Chevy 3100 pickup seems to have some localised variation to it. Very interesting.
The last one is kind of a mystery to me too. It was suppose to have been taken at Arlington Tx. 1949. There were 2 races there that year, the usual 100 mi and then a 50 lapper for filming the "To Please A Lady" movie. It is obviously a KK-2000 which narrows it down but still not enough to positively identify it.
Doing a little more digging I came across this pic of the Wolfe Spl. at Indy 1949 and though there's some minor differences it sure looks like it could be the car at Arlington 1949.
