So, here are some progress photos from the body prep... I blasted the body and then put it in epoxy (Nason ful poxy). After that, a scuff and skim coat of filler. During the blocking process, there were high spots that exposed the metal and it's really humid in Michigan right now, so I re-sealed it with epoxy after the rough in with filler was complete. After this stage, I will move to evercoat spray on polyester followed by 2k primer. I will paint it eventually with single stage urethane.

At this point I'm pretty well finished with the beltline on down, and turning my focus to the top half.

Such a cool print. What's the size of that quarter panel one?

More progress- spent the last couple days on the quarter uppers and trunk bead area. Skim coat, block, and re-seal.

  7. Your car is looking great! Body work is such a tedious stage of the project.

Thanks! Very tedious! Every time I think i got it perfect, oops, another spot! The big thing now I learned is I can get the gaps adjusted perfectly then just breath on the frame and it moves them around. I'm going to pull the body before I go any further and finish welding and riveting the frame to make the foundation more solid. I'd hate to get it in color and find out the hard way I should have done something different

  9. The other day, I was sitting here on the H.A.M.B. kind of bummed. There just doesn't seem to be a lot of build threads going on these days. Lots of "what did you do today" and "imagine if" fluff. Then I came across this. Awesome thread! Love seeing the progress. Will be following along.

Whew! Its been over a month and a half and I finally got a chance to get out in the garage today! Work trips, family vacation, and kids activities really eat the weekends (but worth it!)...

I've been stressing about the rear decklid fit, since I am so far along with the body work, I was afraid I'd have to undo a bunch of stuff to get it fitting right. Well after much thought, I carefully removed some floor rivets, and cut loose the lower rear panel. I was able to push the rear of the quarters around enough to get the gaps nice, reweld the rear cross panel and re-rivet the floor back together. The only casualty was the rear panel that I had to add a 1/4" to in order to gap everything nicely.

Hopefully tomorrow I will pull the body off so I can do the final last details on the chassis.

One other exciting score that will be a nice addition to the roadster is the 25 louver hood I picked up from @koolbeans ardun coupe project. A friend bought the leftover rolling chassis and bits, and I ended up with the hood that will be really perfect with a SCoT blower peaking through the side louvers.....

Spent some time today with the grinder and a beautiful wood kit from Brad's wood. As with most things like this, it took the better part of the day to make the corners fit nicely....

Still need to drill the holes and then do a final overall sand and shape of the sharp corners ....

This weekend- finished up mounting wood and then moved on to the front floors. I decided to make them out of steel due to the extra room needed for the larger T5 trans and k member top brace. Still more work to do, but you can see where it's headed. I'll put some beads in them after it's all fabbed ...

Thanks! I'm sort of inventing as I go, and so far I like how it's turning out. Good thing I am not getting paid by the hour, cause I do a lot staring and making scraps before it works well

Also good thing there is a lot of talented metalworkers on the HAMB and Instagram who share their techniques.

More weekend progress on the floor. Added beading detail, made a "glovebox" for the pass side and access hole for master cylinder. Still need to make some nice doors for the covers and add holes for fasteners.

Worked on the doors for the access holes today. I used early Ford floor rivets to fasten the hinge. I think it turned out pretty slick...

Got my rebuilt rear shocks back from Mike at Mike's Speed shop in NC. They look great. I took some 32 front shock arms, shortened them 1.5" and they line up nice with the 36 bones. This will also make the effective stiffness from the shock greater.
