  2. Photos of cities taken just before the the advent of the automobile are fascinating to me. It is so clearly the end of an era. Cars have imposed an unknowable number of costs and sacrifices upon us. I can also appreciate the lack of outdoor advertising and other modern trash.

The delivery truck full of wooden Pepsi cola boxes, is classic, I have a couple of vintage 7 Up wooden boxes, can you imagine what the value of the Pepsi boxes would be now if you had the full truck load of them at a swap meet! "Everything old is new again"

  6. Great pics WQ59B !
I was surprised to see all the handtools on the Mobil Lubrication board. I expected it to be just grease guns n fittings like the "Specialized Lubrication" board in the next pic of a Sunoco garage/station. Maybe the mechanic just thought it was a handy spot n added hooks.
I have an orange n black porcelain lubrication board from a Signal Gas and Oil station. I keep watching for oddball grease guns to fill the spaces.

1 more car I promise, Rex Winter

Well, the other way to look at it is that the burning/disposal of all that equine waste likely caused the Spanish Influenza that killed millions at the turn of the century, so not all wine & roses pre-auto.

I'm not recognizing this car or driver. Is there any information on the photo?

    Thank you.

This photo from Brisbane Australia and I am sure it has been shown before and I followed up with a hot rodder friend and I believe it is from the back yard of one of the members of Rods Inc Hot Rod Club in the early 60's.
The house in the background is a typical Queenslander up on wooden stumps. In my early days when I would go car hunting there was always something stashed under those houses and hidden from view unless you got up close.

I have a feeling Ken Brown and Terry Collins (Toowoomba) were involved in
that photo, could have been Terry's Chevs as he had some in the '60s
