Both cars involve the whole family…

    Hello,

Front ends attract most enthusiasts as we see it coming toward us at all angles. When stationary, it is certainly a lot easier to compare each vs the other. “What you see is what you get…” to show case the hot rod in various angles. The 32 is very popular in all shapes and builds. The 33-34 has a different style in its own. One looks like it will block the wind, while the other looks like it will slice the wind...There always be two camps or points of view as to the popularity of each version.

If I were to own a 34 ford 3 window for the street, it would look like the one above that I saw at the Price Transfer, Lions Museum Event in 2017. The coupe had the “look” and classy style of late 50s/early 60s street cruising hot rods. That would also look cool at any hot rod function and in my garage.

But, if I was going to have a race car, it would look like the old, Jim Miles 34 coupe that I filmed at Riverside Raceway and Bakersfield Smokers events in 1959-60. (including the Moon Disc equipped trailer...)

But, as far as a street cruising hot rod, the first street/strip hot rod I ever rode in was imprinted in my mind all of these years later. It was black, had black upholstery and a big Olds motor, with a LaSalle 3 speed. It was very fast and won many times in the A/Gas class at Lions Dragstrip.

But, it truly was a dual purpose street/strip hot rod. The 5 window 1934 coupe was a daily driver to high school and to the after school job. The weekends demanded the coupe be at Lions in the day and the Bixby Knolls drive-ins at night. 3 window vs 5 window? Can I take both for my garage?

  3. I like both years, coupe or open car for me, but they also look great as a sedan..no small wonder why they are so popular.
Whichever body style, I prefer them as full fendered.

The 1933 Victoria would be my pick. First one I ever saw was in a guys future stock car pile. A year later it was on the track and sadly died there. Bob

I like all 34s, all 33s, all brands makes and models. This thread has a good deal of great looking cars in it. To pick a fave, 34 5w unchopped, unchanneled, and fast. I like fenders, and I like no fenders. I cannot pick that one.

  7. '33 is my favorite, I just love the swoopy grill and hood louvers.

Was just telling the wife I needed to get started on a '33/34 build since my '32 build is winding down and I have some original unissued '33 Iowa license plates that need a home. She didn't smile....

'33 - 3 window, chopped with full fenders would be my first choice. Elegant looking car. Would offset the 5 window 32 hiboy I already have nicely.

2nd choice would be a '33 - 5 window hi boy. She likes full fenders so maybe I can use that to sway her to my way of thinking.

Maybe if I start a '33 - 3 window with a mild chop and full fenders we can call it hers and she might get on board with it!

I favor Cabriolets as they are closer to an all weather car. We have done several and my least favorite is the 32, too much chunky Model A look. The two 34's have much more style whether bone stock (tan One) or hot rod (blue one). My love affair with 34's started in the late 1940's when the 5w coupes at the circle tracks caught my eye. I used other body styles for parts including two three windows and then dumped them in a wash gulley to cut down on erosion. My best 5w I paid $11 for and drove it home. When the west coast guys drove the price up to $50 I had to quit for 50 years till income increased.

    Here are some I like.
The 32 grille shell shouldn't work, but it does on this one.
The RPU is in the Duluth Trading store in Wixom, Mi.

Now I know why my ‘33 2dr. has been in my garage since ‘72. Sold the ‘32 hiboy, 34 3w, 33 cabriolet ,34 4dr. and others.
I’m enjoying my 29 rpu but the 33 is here to stay.
I’m convinced that they look best with a mild chop as the top contour at the back is awkward. I haven’t been able to make myself do it.

For me, it's the 5 window 34. Don't like the swoopy 33 grille. ...reminds me too much of a dan fink billet grille.
