I want to create this thread as a salute to our hamb military members . Past, present and retired. Would like to hear stories (military/hot rod related) and pics of your hot rods on the base, you and your car, Grandpas , fathers ,mothers, sisters , brothers etc. Hopefully this thread can continue as new postings are added as a reminder to all...... Thanks for service .:)

Now I don't expect any of you to look as good as these sweethearts , but if you do not want to show your mugs , let's see your car/trucks . If you can state what branch of the military you are/were in or old pics of cars on base and base military branch. Thanks

    38.7 years.

Built my V8 Pinto 289, C4 B&M Automatic, 9 in rear, while stationed at Ft Ord. 1978. No pictures...

They called it "The Radical Rat" because it was brown and the wheelie bars looked like a rat tail from the side. Also had a chute for looks only.

While stationed at Ft Hunter Liggett CA. 1979, we had a race strip that we ran on. It was an old unused airstrip.

We had the U.S. Army's blessing to use it as long as nothing happened.

Had a light tree. Had to have safety equipment that was inspected.

We did not have an official timer just guy's with a stop watch.

And a good time was had by all...

Don’t know if this counts, but my neighbor, rebuilds military jeeps. He has three or four of them complete. After he gets one done, he put plactic over it and parks it in his barn and starts on another one. He gets them out for parades and stuff. Never asked him if he was a veteran? Will the next time I see him.

At the time I had a ‘67 Galaxie, it was the only classic on post. I was also stationed at FT Hunter Liggett! Talk about an out of the way place!

Unfortunately they were using the airstrip occasionally-no more racing on post at any time. I am amazed someone on here knows of Liggett!

Thank you for your service sir!

    Here is my current ride:

Hey they were safe they then came with two tiny groves around the tires to comply with the rules that said they had to have threads

U.S. Army, 72-75. MOS, 42-D-10, dental lab tech, SPEC 4, Fort Sill Oklahoma. Young and very naive back then about English automobiles. From the influence of a high school friend that had a 59 MGA roadster, I had to teach myself about how to NEVER do this to myself again! Fortunately, my then GF bought a brand new V.W. Rabbit and I didn't have to freeze to death in the MGA. The MGA kept me broke, but it did give me one good blast across country, I drove it home from Ft. Sill back to Atwater California, fingers crossed all the way, hoping that nothing would break. When I got to L.A., the rotating word " Goodyear " slightly above my eyesight, next to me from the big trucks, was enough to convince me to sell it, and I did and I bought my first 56 IHC S-110 phone truck. Ahh the joys of a bench seat, a real floor made of metal, a heater, and roll up windows, and a lockable box to carry a ton of junk in!
Thanks for your service, to all that have served!
