Projects Scratch built Crosley Special

  1. Thank you. The wheelbase is about 94” and the track width is 49”. I’m not familiar with the size designations for a midget and sprint car. My friend Bob was inspired by the Maserati 4cl-1500 single seat racer.

I've seen a 4 cylinder Maserati at the Vintage races at Lime Rock, as soon as I saw all the rivets in your gas tank I knew what you had been looking at. Bob

  4. Cool, I’ve never seen one in person. Lime rock attracts some fantastic automobiles. I went last year to the historic festival and the featured marquee was Bugatti. Just about blew my mind.

Sprint Cars wheelbase usually 83" minimum, 90" max/Midget is 65" min. 74"max/Silver Crown cars min 96" wheelbase, so this car is just short of a Silver Crown, but appreciably longer than a Sprint or Midget.

  6. CONGRATS for such a cool project!
I am about to self-teach myself to make a few shapes by watching videos and seeing what happens.
I hope I have half that ability I see here.
    Wish me luck.
I sure would like to see that car in person someday.
    That is so cool.

    WHY BE ORDINARY ?

  7. Thanks. Wray Schelin of Pro Shaper Sheetmetal has a great YouTube series on shaping panels for a Jag E-type nose. Check them out. You’ll be sure to learn a ton.

  11. Thanks. Progress has been slow (as per usual), I’ve been really busy with other work. I also went to Hershey for the first time so nothing got done for a week. But I have been able to put a few hours in since then. So I’ll try to snag some pictures and share them.

As far as the engine running. Bob has the pan off to do some work to the engine. So it probably won’t be going for awhile yet.

    Thanks for the interest.

This might be in "traditional hot rods" but it is definitely not traditional! Very interesting!

  20. People are still interested!

I’ve been so busy with work that I haven’t had anytime to work on this. Hopefully soon I’ll get to make some progress.
