I did manage to put a little over 300 miles on my truck before being forced to park it for the winter. Here's a shot from an unveiling of sorts at a late fall gathering of friends. So now it sits, waiting for spring rains to wash the roads. About 2 months from now, driving will begin in earnest...

I missed this first time around...Condolences on the loss of your Bro. I really liked the flamed look but you have also done an admirable very thorough update to this and continue to live the dream with his spirit no doubt always close by. Thanks for sharing the journey.

You're gonna leave that "column shift" in that work-of-art!?! "Don't-make-me-take-my-belt-off-to-you"! J/K:mad:
I woulda done it different but hey....it looks great and ....it-ain't-my-truck"!!
No kidd'in....I really like it! Great job.

  4. WOW!,...this is by far the nicest Task Force p.u. I've ever seen;..I'd be afraid to drive it.
Love the paint choice, the white cab roof sets it off nicely with the interior.
...I'm sure it drives every bit as nice as it looks....unreal job you've done.

Stogy I have no doubt that Chris was there every step of the way. He was a graphic artist and the colors and flames were his vision. I really wrestled with putting some purple flames back on but in the end, I just couldn’t do it. I’m a less is more kind of guy.

If there’s a floor shifter in the way, mama can’t slide on over...

I built it to be a nice driver, surely there are many nicer TF’s running around but I appreciate the compliment. You are correct about how it drives, with the Nova front sub and the spring / shock combo it rides pretty smooth.

I was hard pressed to find the best adjective for the truck and your work they are so nice. Finally found the closest one that fits. MAGNIFICENT. What a beauty and "saving" your brothers truck just adds to the story. Truly beautiful.

That is truly a beautiful truck..I wouldn't change a thing on it.I am sure your brother would be proud how it turned out. Did you by chance leave his note on the inside? What did you use for the taillights?

I did leave the note, it’s covered by sound deadener but it will always be there.

For tail lights I cut down the flange on ‘60-‘61 Chevy passenger car lenses to fit the stock ‘58 truck housings. The guts of the housings were also reworked to position the bulb farther into the lens so the light is more visible from the side.

It's been a full season of fun with no problems, although a couple of upgrades are planned for this winter...

This is an awesome build thread, Black Sheep. I am sorry about your brother. It hit me hard, because my brother and I are just starting to work on my basket case Apache. Your story will make me appreciate every hour that we spend working on it that much more. Thank you for sharing your story, and the tons of photos. Both have provided us a lot of inspiration!

Well into the second season of driving the ‘58 whenever and wherever possible. This photo popped up on social media after enjoying the Saturday night cruise in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. I’ve always wondered how it looks rollin’, now I know...

I know it is a cliche, but the only thing I would like to do is change the title of that truck into my name!
