Figured since we're a couple months away from the race (10/26/19) we might as well toss a post up to let everyone know what's going on.
We'll once again be back at Santa Margarita Ranch to take over the airstrip for a day of vintage racing along with a swap meet area full of early ford and vintage hot rod parts as well as a pre 1960 car show down by the track.
Racing is open to 1936 and older cars powered by ford flatheads and bangers with 6 different classes, street car v8, street car banger, street v8 with power adder (blower, overhead conversion, or both) street banger with power adder, and then 2 full race anything goes classes for v8 and 4's. Full race class is any non street legal vehicle, sprint cars, tanks, early rails, etc.
With the space available at the track we limit the race to 100 entries, basically allowing people to send in a submission and at the end of the entry period (September 13th) we print out pictures of every car sent in and pick the best of the bunch. If you're interested in racing all the info/tech requirements are at rpmnationals.com
Here's a handful of the entries that have been sent in so far

We're working on a few historic cars to come out again this year as well and already have a couple confirmed that haven't ran down a track for 60+years.

In other new I finally got Russ (the other part of RPM Nationals) to sign up for the hamb, he's been a lurker for years but never officially signed up till now, he's on here as russ hare.

Anyways it's looking like it'll be another great year at the ranch, hope to see a bunch of the old hamb family up there

The Kiwis will be there albeit as spectators. It looks such a way cool laid back event without enormous crowds, as they say “the way it used to be” .
Really looking forward to a day of pure nostalgia.

I hope to be able to make it this year, spectating only (or with a pre-60 vehicle, is the "car show" just a cruise in?).

Car show is down by the track and there's no sign up for it, or extra cost, (just the regular ticket price) the gate will close at 9am just make sure you're in before that

A lot of people stay at the holiday inn express in atascadero, if you want something more scenic there's a handful of places by the beach in San Luis Obispo or the Madonna inn just a bit south or the KAO campgrounds in santa Margarita

Does the 9am gate close apply to spectators too?

We're up in Atascadero. It looks like it's a nice place. The rate is a little higher than we'd usually do, but we didn't take a vacation this year, so what the hell, might as well get a nice place.

Any activities planned for Friday or Saturday nights?

Main gate to the ranch will open at 7am, racer/vendor/car show gate is open from 7-9am, spectators can start getting in to the ranch and parking at 7 but the ticket booth/gate you walk through to get to the track won't open till around 9 (once all the car show and vendor/swappers are parked) it will remain open the rest of the day.

We're working on getting some live music in the little town of Santa Margarita for Saturday night, should know location and time in the next few days. I'll post on here once we know the details.

I'm headed up. Staying in SLO. Not seeing a lot of spectator info on the pages. Seating area? distance to start line for seating? Restrooms? Parking area? Walking distances? Kinda curious what a spectator can expect who pays $25 entry. Is there shade? (it's going to be very warm) Are the spectator seats in the shade?
