There is another side to the coin on this thread and you just hit the nail on the head. How many of us guys pulled perfectly good and now very desirable parts and discarded them?. I can remember a time where the now much wanted flatheads, Y blocks and such were considered worthless and tossed out like trash. I'm sure we all have a story or three about tossing out stuff and regretting it. I know I do. But who knew?

  2. I got a wavy 33 mopar axle bout the same way
got a 33 ford front and rear set up with juice brakes after swapping in a 32 heavy and 9 inch ford

It's sort of like the expression that heavy people hate when they sow up at the pool crammed into a swim suit that fit 60 pounds ago, "Oh good for you!"

Backhanded compliments are an art form.

  5. I sold a really nice 40 pick up to a guy about 2 years ago, he takes it to a buddy's shop the next day and drops it off and tells my buddy to pull out the (freshly built ) 327 and put a 502 in it. My buddy calls me and say's come over and get yer 327 if ya want it --- FOR FREE I love FREE

  8. About 8 years ago I was browsing Craigslist in Boise (400 miles away) and came across the ad for a 1932 Ford old hot rod frame. I think I paid 2500.00 for it. It was at a street rod shop where the owner who had owned the car since the 50’s brought it in to make it a street rod (GASP). Everything not being used was included. Full rolling frame with a Columbia, Lincoln brakes, Lincoln gears in a Ford case, old modified (nice!) fenders, firewall (shortened as the car was channeled), steering, reversed wheels, headlight bar and seat. I told the guy I was 400 miles away but I had a friend who could maybe grab the frame for me. Shop owner said don’t worry, he had a roll back and would deliver it to him! So I went down the next weekend and picked it up. Ended up parting it out which I kind of regret but I kept the piece I wanted and about tripled my money. My buddy wanted the Chrysler steering wheel so I gave that to him for his help in storing it.

  9. Although it seems you got a great deal and there were some awkward looks to that 32, it is sad that it couldn’t have been rebuilt retaining some of its personality especially considering it was still owned by the guy that had it a long time. Looks like a nice finished street rod now, but is just another high-end build easy to walk right by.

I found a '40 Ford front and rear axles/suspension in a junkyard. Looked like they been recently restored, then pulled (street rod, I'm sure). Weren't sitting long, hadn't settled into the dirt yet, brakes drums spun freely. Can't remember what I paid exactly, something like $300. I had the cash in my pocket so I grabbed them.

well if you have enough money to pay someone to build a car for you 4 or 5 hundred dollars worth of parts may not mean anything to you.

I'm a poor bastard, when I put a MII on my 49 I sold the front suspension and cross member to a Corvette weenie for one of his restorations for $150.00. another time I disassembled the front and sold each piece on ebay by itself and got over 300 bucks!

If this frame / chassis gets built into a complete '32 car, can it be titled with its original serial number? Or was that used by the street rod project?

A lot of times I give cast off parts away, if someone will actually use them and not flip them to make a buck. I don't have the time or space to hoard anymore.

    "BLESS THOSE STREET RODDERS HEARTS"

I wonder if the guys back in the late 30s thought the same about the guys ripping out bangers and mechanical brakes to install flatheads with juice brakes?

I have a close circle of friends that I will give parts to and they will do the same for me. A lot of times if I'm vending at a swap meet and there is a younger guy building a car I will often give or sell parts very cheap to further his project. I went to a very big swap meet last month where a guy had a huge trailer full of parts that he was just giving away. When he told me this I thought he was pulling my leg. It's kind of like the joke where we used to bring a for sale sign to a car show and put it on a buddy's car when he wasn't looking.
