    Hello,

Recently, the weather has been relatively mild and portrays what we like about our area of So Cal. (inland it has climbed to over 100 with Palm Springs topping 118 degrees.) Our lives have been out here for what seems like forever. But, memories must last or at least linger. Approximately 49 years ago, we had a red 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery.

My wife OK’d the original purchase, loved to drive with me all over So Cal. She even liked driving the sedan delivery when ever she could or that happened to be the only car left in the garage. I am sure it was the 327 and A/C the former builder put in the sedan delivery.

So, all of these years later, we are definitely settled on our final two daily drivers. But, she surprised me with some photos last year. It was several photos of a very cool 1940 Ford Convertible sitting in a driveway getting ready for a display in the neighborhood of historic homes. She took several shots from all angles…she must have been listening and watching how to shoot hot rods from those long time ago photo shoots. And, surprised me later with a set of nice photos of the convertible.

The convertible has been seen in all the right, So Cal car gatherings recently. So, it does get around and not become a “garage queen.”

There had to be a reason she gave me those photos. Then as we were talking about hot rods and our old history, she mentioned that it would be nice to have that 1940 Ford Convertible as a hot rod that we just cruise around in mild, sunny So Cal beach side, where we grew up together.

Wow, some nostalgia must have hit her on the head. I jumped at the chance to quiz her about the convertible and she said it was not for sale. But, that she wouldn’t mind if it were in our small garage as a daily driver. What is it with girls/women and convertibles? This one, I would not mind owning and driving the daylights and night time along the coastline near us.

In the most recent times, we have seen this convertible driving around a couple of So Cal beach towns, probably going to the various hot rod events like the Donut Derelicts in HB or Cars and Coffee in South Orange County. It would make a nice addition to our daily drivers, but one of them would have to go….awww. "Two is company, three is a crowd."

Just picked this ‘47 up recently. Will be getting lowered with a nice stance in the near future. Has Nicely running flatty with dual ‘97’s on an Offy regular intake, Offy heads, Max 1 cam, Fenton headers and Smitty mufflers. And I love the color!

  28. Beautiful car, glad someone mounted the '39 tailights that way, they are called "tear drops", I've wanted to do that for years but never had the right car to put'em on. Looks great. BigO
