Nitwit in a new F150 4x4 tagged us as we waited for traffic to clear for a left turn on the way home from the “Relix Riot”. Shoved and spun the car across the centerline into oncoming cars. He never touched the brakes. My son is in hospital with a knee injury, the poor girl driving the little car also still in hospital, that guy responsible for the carnage offered to beat me up before he got his ticket. Lesson, get good insurance...

Damn! I read about this in the other thread that wondered if it was you. I hope your son and the girl heal up quickly.

I can't stand the anger from the guilty party but it is part of human emotion. He likely knows he's wrong... doesn't matter, anyway. The insurance company will straighten it out.

Just glad to hear you all are still able to talk about it.

The guy did admit to to the cop he was looking at his radio, then said the wagon had no brake lights. The cop told him he knows the car, sees it all time, has followed it, and KNOWS the lights work, and pointed out it has a high 3rd brake light.

I hate to ask this but do you think this will covered for the restoration?

  6. So sorry, Brian. Thoughts and prayers out to your Son and the poor girl in the small car, both innocent victims. Glad the cop was familiar with your car as well...............Don.

Thank God you are right man! Carnage is a good word for that mess. At least you were driving something substantial, that ol wagon took some heavy damage while protecting the occupants. 3rd brake lights don't mean crap when people have their heads up their ass!

  13. Brian,

Sorry to hear about the accident and that people are hurt, but glad the injuries aren't serious!

Years ago, one of the local AACA guys was on a tour with his late 20's-early 30's Packard roadster. Long story short, a truck driver fell asleep at the wheel an rear-ended him at highway speeds, launching him down the road-

As part of the settlement, a restoration shop went through the car and magnafluxed every part- what could be saved was saved and what couldn't was replaced with factory original pieces (also tested) and the car was completely restored.

Most importantly, you and your family are safe- make sure you see an orthopedic specialist and get physical therapy (and DON'T say you'll be fine- I'm still going through heck 4 months after getting hit head on by an 18 year who crossed the double yellow trying to make a left in front of me on a 55mph road)!

After that, the "gentleman" and his insurance company can suck it up and pay for whatever needs to happen to replace your limited production vehicle- don't settle for anything less

  14. Brian,
Truly horrible on multiple levels, prayers to you and your family members for a speedy recovery.

    All,
How does insurance work with classics? Being that my T-bucket isn't on the road yet, I haven't had to deal with getting it. How do insurance companies decide on how much to pay out, I would imagine they aren't going over to KBB.com to get a value. Thanks in advance.

That just blows but it is happening more and more often. Hope the kids heal up quick, we don't want them to miss any school. My guess is you will fix that beauty and it will be better than before.

Best wishes to all injured, I'm glad there was nothing more serious. Cars can be replaced.

Generally speaking collector cars and classics need a special policy written by company who deals with collector cars and classics. Grundy is one well known, there are others.

Looking at the photos I would make sure your LAWYER points this out to the insurance companies:

Last 2 photos show he hit you high (no downward force, no brakes applied) and on the right (passenger) side of car. Road appears to be single lane so you were probably on the center line waiting to making your left hand turn. You got pushed across center line at an angle (wheels slightly turned to left) to hit oncoming vehicle with your center on her left front.
I would believe he saw you at the very last second and started to turn wheels as he hit you as evidenced by the damaged on your tailgate. He was to close to get on the brakes, but probably far enough to start turning wheel (hands on the wheels is quicker reaction then moving foot to brake).

EVERYONE who drives should have one of those recording cameras on the rear view mirror.

Hope all works out for you and the young folks who were injured.

PS is that the asshat in photo 3 leaning against his truck?

It's the way it is today with these clowns. Wonder how much luck this ass hat would have beating us "All" up? Michigan is not that far and hell I'm ready for a road trip anyway. Couldn't imagine that the HAMB couldn't get more than a few hundred guys that feel the same and are willing to travel.

Hope your son does well and gets over this soon, best wishes to the little lady in the other car as well.

Brian, from my experience do not settle with insurance too early as back/neck injury may take a while to show up.

Too many operators think driving is a part time job - text/phone, fool with the “info center”, eat or whatever. One screwup can change someones life.

  27. That really sucks. I am not sure how the laws are where you are, here you cannot make a turn on a solid yellow line. I really hope for you that is not the case. Hope all heal well

So sorry for the damage to your car but I hope that everyone will be ok and heal back to normal.

I have been rear ended and have had driver pull out in front of me. Both were distracted. The rear ended car (63 Porsche 356) was totaled and my 54 Chevy sustained a lot of front sheet metal damage.

You are correct. Buy good insurance and put your value on it.

Praying for quick and permanent recoveries.

What would REALLY piss me off is the asshat's attitude! Where's the remorse?
He needs his ass handed to him, see if he has a change of heart. Go after the POS.
