A bit more progress, getting ready to pull the original motor out.

Olds 12 bolt rear is like 10 bolt inside except no c clips. Pass on it.

Interesting, thanks for the info. A member on here has a 9” from his 1939 he’s going to sell me. I’m thinking the 9” will handle the 500HP 454 we plan to run.

I like these old chevys best with a 60s/70s vibe not necessarily a gasser with the lettering etc but a darker copper color maybe, sitting up a bit with wide slots in the back and skinnys in the front would definitely do it for me:cool:

Cool photo! I’m not going to get too crazy with the front end lift. It looks like the leaf springs from my Cj Willy’s will fit the front of my Sedan. The springs are basically the same size.

Any one use Camaro leaf springs when they swap in a 10/12 bolt rear axle on these early Chevys?

  13. Camaro/Nova leafs are a bit long for these Chevs,..I'd use originals or Chassis Engineering

Thanks that helps save me time with measurements. I can use my originals. I’d either use off the shelf sliders and caltracks or build my own.

X2 what rusty1 said. I set up a pair of Camaro springs on my 39 sedan frame just to see if they would work, probably could have made it work but would have had to relocate the fuel tank, redo the rear crossmember, and a few other things. I’ve got a TCI Kit, which is basically the same as the Chassis Engineering and I’m very happy with it so far. Here’s a pic from when it was first mocked up

How wide are those springs? I’m thinking my original springs are only
1 3/4” wide, same as the front.

They are 2 1/2” springs. If you do decide to order this setup just be aware all the hardware is for a 3” axle tube. The axle I’m using is 3 1/4” so had to order different u-bolts and plates. I simply adjusted the axle saddles with a flap wheel to fit on the bigger axle. It’s all still just mocked up for now and I haven’t put the body back on yet so I don’t have any road time with it, but I was very happy with how it all mounted onto the frame.

I used Chassis Engineering for my 1940 chevy with a 1974 nova rear end & I have a 1974 nova front sub frame 64632775_1525139070955048_6842799250980470784_n.jpg

I’m going to sell some parts off the car that we don’t need. The front bumper and the sun visor seem to be worth the most based on what’s available on eBay.

With some help I got the 9” axel placed. Looks like some addition fab work will be needed to get it centered in the wheel well opening.

Pulled the old motor and trans out tonight, plenty of space for a big block. Adjustments.JPG IMG_3362.JPG IMG_3363.JPG

Looks like a fun project . I remember helping my brother with his 37. He used a Nova clip and it drove great.
You have to lose the visor to give it the Gasser vibe. W motor would be cool. 348's can be made to run.

Yep, Visor is getting taken off and sold. The front bumper too.
All my spare parts are getting hauled to a classic car junk yard... rip

The only hang up I see is that the steering box may get in the way of a W motor.

I decided against the W motor. I looked at several and for the price I’d never be able to get the power out of it.

Here’s where we’re at with the build.
The motors out and were cleaning stuff up.
Ford 9” is under it for mock up.
We found a Big block Chevy and trans for it. Nearly free.
As soon as I get motor mounts sorted out we’re starting mock up.

Engine has flat top pistons and 718 heads. 2 bolt main
Not sure if it’s a forged crank or not.
    Pistons are .30

Any one have a link for bbc headers that fit these fat fender cars?

    Or do tri5 headers work?
