I just watched a TV show about this elephant it's still around. But it has been moved to a new location, down the road a bit, after falling into disrepair and rebuilt. Now it's like a tourist attraction, pay your way in and look around.

Here, Art Arfons in his Allison-powered V12 Green Monster 6 Lindley dragster won 1957 Chrysler engine for fastest speed. Also won Motor Trend Best Engineered Car trophy, Rod & Custom's Fastest Speed.
