Tony, I'm pretty sure that cigarette lighter fluid and naptha are just about the same stuff.
Loose dowel pins? If you got a spare I can duplicate for you on my lathe. That is assuming you want straight instead of offset now that you are using offset bushings.
Call me when you get a chance and we'll talk about that.

  3. You're right DOM
Lighter fluid or lighter fuel may refer to: Butane, a highly flammable, colorless, easily liquefied gas used in gas-type lighters and butane torches. Naphtha, a volatile flammable liquid hydrocarbon mixture used in wick-type lighters and burners.

The exploded adapter plate had longer than normal offset dowels because of the 1/4" mid plate. The offset dowels need to rotate to set the dial in, so they aren't loose but they are loose enough to rotate the dowel pin with a screwdriver and a wrench. When the pressure plate exploded, it carried a 2 pound piece of it around and around at 8,000 rpm. The chunk was still attached to the steel hat so it began hitting the starter pocket in the bell housing. Eventually the the dowel pin came out of the plate and then shit went bad in a hurry.

This new setup removes the mid plate so the bell is really snugged up close to the dowel. And the dowel is short.

  4. Best event so far! Had one close call when a car lost it’s brakes but he’s ok.

Going to put the MSD back in for Mooresville

  9. We got a spare. I'm thinking of going B/G next year with less stroke. Not sure this long stroke is the right formula for this sport. Gonna pick up several 354's at Moorseville.

Do you currently have the largest CID in A/gas? Won't get much ET relief in B/G will you? Can't believe how close A/B/C are getting in ET, less than a second of separation from A to C.

Man alive, that's a bitch for certain. I know that hurts, but I'm glad you have a spare.
Prolly a wise move to come down to a shorter stroke and B/G.
I know the crank and block, etc are dead, but is that high dollar top end still repairable?

  12. A stock stroke 392 crank in a 354 makes 392 cubes in a smaller; lighter package. The port angles are also better. The block is also stronger on the 354 because it doesn't have the hole drilled through the webbing. .050 needs to be added to the thrust. Cut the rods and mains to stock 354 size. Or cut the rods to BBC size. I would seriously consider a aluminum rod with what you are doing.

Since Tony runs aftermarket heads and an Enderle injection system that consists of 2 separate pieces, one on each head, I'm not entirely sure your width concerns are applicable.

Damn tony I feel your pain I just went through the same deal I got lucky and the block is useable but cracked the crank and broke the cam in 4 pieces and destroyed the pushrods I bought a rev limit box from auto meter to use with the mag for the new Motor did you have such device on yours

  16. Yeah that's the thing 50% chance of getting put on the trailer first round in any class so I'm thinking less blown up parts is where I'm going.

Yeah the only damage is 2 rods 2 pistons and a block. The big money is above the block and that's all ok. The crank will polish out. I think the steel main caps will get moved to the new block. (I have a 392 block and 2 pistons sitting here - guess that pan is hosed too) - seriously after the clutch explosion this is just a bump in the road.

Was your failure do to over rev? Man I have tried 3 completely different mag rev limiter solutions. ETC, Auto Meter Pro Control and this time get real exotic and put a crank mounted hall effect pickup going to and MSD RPM activated switch. This last solution works with a 3000 pill if you just hold it wide open it sounds like a bracket race car on the line. Bounces off the 3000 limit. But I put an 8000 pill in it and it climbs so fast its like nothing is there. I'm just gonna go back to the MSD 6AL. The mag really woke it up. Hate to go back to electronic.

  17. Yeah I need to figure my weight to cubic inch recipe. The car is still 300 (?) pounds heavy for A/G so going to B/G we can build the cubic inch to match the class exactly. I'm allowed to be 2368 but its 2700. I just wonder if a 1956 354 or 392 crank is up to the task or does it need a high dollar aftermarket crank.

Sorry to see the damage, but I guess it could have been worse. I can't believe what a difference the polished wheels make in the Q 'n D, ready for a Sat. Night trip to town. Love your shop dog, Carp.

  19. The cranks can handle it. That combination was always in my car. For a extra measure of strength find a used fuel crank that has a bad journal. It needs to be ground anyway so it wont matter.
There are several choices on sizing for the rods. Stock 354; 426 or bbc.

  20. We got Joie at the dog rescue about 12 years ago. When I first saw her I said "This will make someone a good dog someday" I'm still saying that ......

So do you like the shiny wheels? I'm not convinced it the right look.

I like shiny wheels, but with your car I think it might be toward the bottom of the to-do list. I could change my mind if I see it in person, pictures do not do it justice!

There's enough gold tone accents on it to make it work in my opinion.

Yes it was an over rev issue I bought the auto meter control box as that was what was suggested to me but now I am wondering if it will work I haven’t got the motor back together yet but hopefully will towards the end of next week guess I better look into something different maybe

I tried the autometer box with the Joe Hunt adapter with a Ronco mag and it never did the same thing twice. I tore up more parts in the waterbox

    Sux big time....Tony!
What about a 60's 426 hemi? They fixed a lot of the 'weak spots' in the older hemi's. Maybe destroke it down to what you need cu. in. wise.
    Just spitball'in
