One of the few pics I took of a car that doesn't have wide whites, wheel covers, fenderskirts, or 60's style pinner whites. But this one was so clean, polished stainless to go with the mile-deep red paint. Shaved the gravel guards, rocker trim, door handles, plus nosed and decked. And possibly a really mild chop? I remember this one in bare metal when the show was on N. 9th street in Salina. Come a long way, looking great! DSCN2515.JPG DSCN2516.JPG DSCN2517.JPG

Here's a cool '54 Chevy in progress. Wonder what that roof is ? Get fooled too?

The car is actually a 51/52 Plymouth with Chevy rear quarters and deck lid expertly grafted on. Front of bulbous Chevy panel is a neat place for a scoop DSCN2537.JPG DSCN2538.JPG

It used to be, but they have followed suit behind NSRA etc. and opened it up to basically anyone that has a wallet. There were good cars there, but were were pretty disappointed overall.

the fact that they opened it up to everything ruined this show for me... I only missed twice between 1982 and 2012. I am in the kkoa hall of fame and will not attend as it is just another anything goes show now.

Really I am ashamed of myself. I did the same thing last year at this show. I take pictures of really nice cars but the most outstanding ones, I stand there looking at them with the deer in the headlights stance and when I regain control I move on forgetting to take a picture. There was a 32 coupe with an over the top front end .Buick drums detailed to the max about as high end an early period correct hotrod as it gets. There was a 32 roadster pickup with the most beautiful blue gray late model early hued color that I have seen with a black top and ET lll' s . An outstanding early green 34 two door. Many more. The show is much better than is usually presented. I think many that take pictures must have the same thing happen to them that happens to me. The heat may have something to do with it also.

Yes and no. Kinda sorta. How's that for wishy washy. I've never been NSRA, but isn't their thing a floating 30 year cut off? And GG just went to '87 and under for many events. KKOA still has the year break back at 1969/1970.

This from the entry form for this past weekend's show. "All kustomized 1969 & older Hotrods, Kustoms, & Bad Boy Drag Machines Welcome."

Newer than 1969? It is supposed to be approved before acceptance to the show. To quote again "1970 & Newer Vehicles, a.k.a. NCC's (New Concept Customs) Welcome IF vehicle is NON-Stock body appearing." "MUST feature noticeable Lowering, and Mild to Wild Customized Bodywork Change's! Photo Required to Determine Approval of a NCC Entry! Motor change, or a modified motor is appreciated but NOT considered as body changes on 1970 and newer vehicles."

My point is, no, they haven't really followed suit of the other organizations that seem to have a simple year-of-manufacture break. KKOA still has conditions attached. I like that.

But, Yes, I see your point on "anyone with a wallet". It seems that way when you see a noticeably LIFTED 73-87 Chevy longbox 4x4 on the Thurs night cruise. (wait, did it have a cowl induction hood?... must be a custom:eek:). I think it was following a grey '73/74 Nova with painted bumpers. And I know I saw a stock appearing green '71-'73 Mustang fastback at the show.

If I took my mild custom 54 Chevy to the 4x4 Jamboree in IL or IN (wherever) or to the Street Machine Nats, or to the Mustang Roundup I would feel embarrassed and stupid. I would expect to be turned away at the gate.

I really think that KKOA runs the show with too little staff. Stuff like that shouldn't get accepted if photo is really sent in. But if they register day of show, and no one with specific car knowledge is around to make the call .... well. If they don't have the people in place to follow the condition of entry that they set forth, it makes the show what is has turned into.

I still go for the Kustoms as you will see from the pics I posted. I thank anyone that still brings 'em out. I can't go anywhere else within 4 hrs drive and see 100-200 traditional kustoms plus the true hot rods. I'll walk right by your C-10 pickup, your Tri-5 with Foose wheels, your rusty 'whatever' that you tried to chassis swap onto Lord knows what kind of modern frame. I look across the street when I see your pro-street anything, your barn find Camaro, or .... Well, enough of that.

Please don't anyone respond to this rant within this thread. Send me a PM if need be. I'd like to see YOUR PICS from the show in this thread

Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of all types of hot rods, customs, drag cars etc. However, the last time we went to this show it was all customs.

I was just disappointed that we had to wade through all the 69 Camaros, 4 wheel drives, diesel powered giant 4 ton trucks.

This is our first custom, so we were there to learn. I talked with some of the old timers, getting good advice. Lots of nice, high end customs there.

Sorry, not trying to derail the thread. Press on.

Maybe you are thinking of the Custom Car Revival in Indy. Traditional Customs only. Limited to 200 cars and must be preapproved.

Well as the old song says Just walk on by. If the rig doesn't interest you you just stroll past until you get to one that does. Vintiques North west nationals used to be one of the best hot rod/street rod events anywhere when it was 48 and older only. Then they let gray line cars in for a couple of years and then up to 72 and now you have to walk past dozens of mid 60's rust buckets that look like they escaped the crusher by the length of their rear bumper the week before.
tried to take at least one photo of each registered vehicle at Deuce days last Sunday but there were probably ten that were such abortions that I didn't waste a shot. Not 32's but Someone's attempt at being "more radical" than anyone else. The non car folk mothbreathers seemed to like them though.
Leadsled is still on my bucket list for events to take the 48 to when it is done.

Thanks to everyone who shared the great photos of some real interesting cars.
