Hot Rods Tired of homogenized hotrods

there all supposed to be 32 ford highboys, black with red wheels.
I just went to look at a survivor 32 5w ford hot rod built in the 50's and then stuck in a basement ever since. olds rear with trailing arms, 3 speed with a hurst, close gate[?] side shifter, Plymouth column/box, unknown backing plates in the front, welded in deck lid, a big chromed heater, full of period pieces ,etc. when I asked the "guys in the know" what they thought, the answers were it is a grill shell, parts of a body and a flathead......the rest is junk.

 

"One man's trash is another man's treasure." Nowhere is that more true than with cars, parts of cars, and ideas about cars and parts of cars.

 

I'd like to see that in your shop after the Pickup...please be holding out the good news...good thing is you just pay for a couple of items and the rest is free...

 

I know I would be pretty tickled that a car I built, partially with the intent to get people riled up, was still getting people riled up repeatedly decades later (66 years now).

 

Hamber @titus has a knack for locating treasures from the vintage past and bringing them back and here's one he did his magic on and the results speak for themselves...awesome Hotrod it is...

Hamber @eye bone posted a thread quite some time ago with some Portland, OR. based pics after getting them from a friend and I do believe it fits right in here as a Slinky Hotrod with some Custom mixed in...I wonder if it ever made it to the finish line...there was lots of potential...

Not sure but Model T is only part of that bit of Period Perfection...

Wow, It does. If it is and this turned into his famous roadster with older body, overhead-flathead....., that is likely an Essex frame.

 

Yep, and he paid over $200k for it.
Just happened to watch the show episode when he bought it, only a few hours ago.

...1rst of these pics are of Isky's Hotrod before he owned it around 1938...it was a good Friend John Athan who put the Jalopy that would be Ed's starting base together...the 2nd pic is after John had sold it and Isky was already reconfiguring it...John is standing beside Isky in the second pic...in the first pic it is John's friend in the Roadster.

So if that was the same Hotrod in earlier times it would have been perhaps John's Family in front with Ed tagging along...5-10 years prior to the above photos...and it's entirely possible...looking at the two younger lads in the earlier pic height wise and looks give plausible credence to your observation...

^^the picture with the kiddos is a later body than Isky’s T. Also doesn’t appear that the frame in the picture with the kids has the same “extra rail” support piece that is on the Essex frame.. not saying it isn’t Isky, but I don’t think it’s the same car

 

The body could have been ditched as @Six Ball alluded and the frame mods added...there is even axle and spring differences but wheeling and dealing and major swaps did happen. Yeah it's a long shot but it is really interesting how these two young lads pictured could have grown into the Hotrod drivers pictured in later pics as they do resemble Ed and John.

There is one young fella that could clarify this and that would be Ed himself...it would be cool for any Hambers close to Ed to let him see the picture to get a definative yes or no.

Oh I don’t doubt that there was lots of parts swapping at all, especially in those days. I guess I must have skipped over SixBall’s comment about it being a different body so that’s my bad. When I first looked at the frame of Isky’s T I thought of Hamber @Clark modified build where he used an Essex frame of the same style, I linked the old for sale ad below for visual reference. I hope someone can shed some more light on it as I really like parallel sprung early rods

If I remember correctly it was the Philippines and no better a Poster than the one whose Uncle passed the pic to.
The fellas who served overseas and elsewhere must have pined to get back to home to carry on what they left...and your uncle saw a new direction and brought some western influence over yonder...It's all good and that is such a cool pic and story...thanks @nochop...
