I usually leave mine unlocked and the windows down but I can always see it. I don’t mind people looking in it especially if it brings back memories for them. One night I took my parents out to a restaurant on the water when I first moved out by them. An overweight little s@&t decided he wanted to sit behind the car and start stacking rocks above the bumper and bang on it like it was a drum. I walked over and told him to get away from the car. His mother didn’t notice as she was busy looking at her phone with the rest of her group but one of the men in the group did and him and the rest of his buddies just gave me dirty looks the rest of the night.

To answer your question; after seeing over a hundred posts on this thread, most of which describing some sort of thoughtless behavior, I thought my experiences and result had some merit. If I need to stand guard or lock up my car at an event it takes the fun out of it for me.

Windows down doors unlocked and I’m sitting under my canopy about 6 feet from the back bumper with my feet propped up on the cooler and my glock 23 on my hip. Haven’t had any issues lately.

The fliers don’t bother me. I just throw them in the trash. But I’m an enthusiast so I have multiple calibers for all occasions. Hahaha

  10. The day I have to resort to having a firearm to go to a car show is the day I give up all this old car business...luckily I live in a place where I roll the windows down, leave the keys in it and walk away, yes people sometimes don’t have a clue on proper etiquette but nothing like the stories here

Never lock my doors. Nothing to steel. Not even over night. (Kill switch)They locks are powered by vacuum. Pain in the ass to unlock. You have to turn the key at least 2 times to unlock it. Then you have to start the car to unlock the pass side. Never had a problem in all the years showing it. You always hear the bad stories and that should not stop you in having fun. And educating the general public in respect and proper manners. I don`t know how many times someone has come up to me and thanked me for letting them or there kids(people of all ages) sit in my car. Months or years later. Did I mention I have hydraulics on it also. They are quite shocked when I raise it up. It`s time some of you to make a positive impact on some ones lives.

Funny thing.....been going to car shows (rod runs, cruise ins and even two indoor shows) all over the south eastern and central US since 1980 (touch over 200 dash plaques). Have never had the first issue. Never talked to a single person that encountered anything like some of the stories here. Never witnessed anything outside of touching. Given the huge number of car shows of various types around the country any given weekend of the year I'd have to say we are doing OK with the relatively small number of stories/complaints listed here.

Put that all aside, built it to drive, built it my way (Chevy with a Ford engine) and have enjoyed the whole experience immensely because I don't worry about it!

    Here we go,
Had the Futurliner and the Yellowstone Park bus at the Mecum auction a couple years ago, what a friggen mess, people thinks its a dammed free for all, 99% are not buyers, I stayed with both of them for the three days, I finally put the steps away on the Liner so it made it hard for people to get in, then I finally closed the door to get in but left the other door open to be able to see inside,it has no way to climb in, kids kept trying to get in that way, parents have no brains, then they all have to touch the polished alum siding, several times a day I was wiping that down, now the back was open to see the ramp and load deck but they had to hang on the side, I had no problem if people asked to get in but to let the kids run wild is unacceptable.
The park bus, I strolled off for a couple minutes to see stuff close to where I was parked, I looked around to make sure no one was close to these two, I come back in 5 minutes and two people had opened a door and were eating hamburgers in one of the seats, next time some gal was in the drivers seat with my Indiana Jones hat on her head and boyfriend taking pictures, finally I get pissed and lock the doors on that , Ha, some chick looking to be about 9 1/2 months along is yanking and jerking on the last side door, this one I had to ask just what the hell she thought she was doing, can't you tell the door is locked, she said she wanted to see what the wood chest was behind the last seat, I ran her ass off, I had someone tell me that maybe they were a buyer I told them that if thats the type of respect you have for a vehicle you don't need to own this one.
Another show an open park I had the park bus displayed and some assholes dog was lifting a leg to piss on a tire, I was just about to land a 9 1/2 boot between his legs when he spotted me and ran to the other end of his leash, leave your dog home.
I like taking these old vehicles out for people to see but they have no idea how to act.

I took my freshly painted '39 Ford coupe to a Billetproof show and parked it. Come back an hour later and some orcabilly had her fat ass, her purse and some miscellaneous junk all over the drivers fender. Of course, she had her equally goofy boyfriend taking pictures. I told her to get the hell off and they both got attitudes. Freakin' morons...

A few years ago me and a friend took out cars to a local show that was held at a tree lined park. We found a nice shady spot and were sitting behind out cars just hanging out. A truck pulling a big assed trailer pulled up and they unload a 34 five window and PUSH it close to where we were parked. Then they proceed to unload enough stuff to set up a tent city complete with metal stands with rope thru them like at a big time indoor car show. They get all this set up and finally move the truck and trailer. The wife stayed to guard the master piece coupe. The guy come back and grabs his duster to go over the car, ask the woman if anyone has got too close to the car as he wanted to keep the yocars finger prints off his big dollar paint job. When he went to start going over the car he tripped over the rope, the metal stand fell on the car and scratched hell out of it. KARMA?

Most people are fine but there are always a few bottom feeders etc. I was at a nice show recently and two older couples were there with very nice cars. There were also a few low lifes about. I asked the guys if they had any issues locally with people-they said no and they were both packing.
At hot august nites a few yrs ago we had our car in the designated show area at a high dollar hotel and were staying there as well. About 9:30 pm the thugs and bad actors were roaming around. A couple of them decided to lean on the fenders of our car and we asked them to please move. There were 6 of them and they threatened to come back and screw up our car. Told security and all they said was move your car and cover it. They told the folks to leave but they were back in about 20 minutes. Later inside the casino a bunch of them started a big brawl and were dispersed. We have not been back since-Friday and Sat nites are the worst. If we had taken action, they would probably have owned our car and house too maybe-sad situation.
A few yrs prior a friend had his car, trailer and truck stolen from there in the secured area-was never found.

I used to do shows all the time and was getting invited to be in some of them. I had 3 cars damaged one summer at different events. I no longer take my old cars to any event. I drive my winter beater or my truck to them if I want to go to them.

Now if you want to see any of my cars then you can view it as it passes you on the road. I don't mind road rash at all but hate all the unnecessary damages that happen at shows because of jealousy or plan stupid people that can't keep their hands off of other people property.

I have no problem at all at taverns or restaurants, people respect your stuff there but when it comes to shows they think they can play with everything. No more for me.

I don't play with their trophy wifes so don't play with my trophy cars, they can have her though. :)

At Goodguys Columbus. I could not believe the amount of Adult's and you could tell they were car people. Had their hands all over the tops on our cars with the custom tops. Unbelievable

  24. I and a partner MC and play music at shows and cruise in's we have racks on the doors of our trailers that PPL can place their flyers. We also place flyers in cars but we try and hit the floor with them instead of placing them in the seats. If the windows are up we skip them or if we see the owners sitting nearby we hand them to them. I like the idea of having the racks for PPL to put their flyers in.
As to PPL getting in or opening doors, we haven't had any incidents at our events. During events, we play we make announcements for PPL not to touch the vehicles. I thought about putting a plastic basket in my seat for PPl to place their flyers in instead of them hitting the seat.

Windows down and doors unlocked most of the time. I will lock it up if we are a long way from home and I know we will be away from the car for a while.

Then again, I really don't have much to worry about, the seat upholstery is pretty worn, and I'm sure not concerned about finding another scratch, there are plenty there. I don't think most people would be impressed enough to want to sit inside of it.

It was built to drive, enjoy, and bring back memories of happier days, not to worry about something happening to it. Gene

Sell your Hot Rods, You've forgotten why you own them. If they're moving no-one can mess with them. Drive a Roadster none of that shit will matter.

After running the Skip Long Memorial show for 35 years, you wouldn't believe how many times I've vaulted out of the golf cart to pluck someone's grubby and unsupervised little angel off a pristine car- many times packing a hot dog or ice cream. Not the kid's fault. Worst but funniest was a few years ago, the show was held on a driving range, and there's a big flock of geese that hang out there year around. So the geese are way back in the corner, way away from the cars, not bothering anyone- then a couple Little Angels decide to throw golf balls at them. So the geese take off and fly in formation like a squadron of B-17s, right over the cars. You know what geese do when they take off? Lighten their considerable loads. Scored many hits...

That is freaking hilarious they should be thankful that the kids didn't get attacked.

My parents used to go to the St. Ignace show every year and it got the point where there was way to many drunks, and accidents. Usually people didn't mess with anything but it got to the point where you had to lock everything up otherwise things disappear.
