    Wow, the block on their lower sheave is really close to the body. Seems like they should have had a loop of heavy rope or a chain down to the push bar. Cool photo.

    The caption most likely refers to the event which was held in Tulsa and was the first time that the NHRA crowned champions based on the results of a single race. Racers were able to score points at six events in their home division with the top two points scorers from each division getting to go to the finals. In this case the champion in Competition Eliminator was Virgil Cates while the photo is of Al Bergler's car. And that means that the final round of Comp featured both of the Division Three qualifiers.

    Pat Cuss and Bill Ashley ran this car in England as the "Ratcatcher" and later it ran as "Stinker" with big block Chevy power and Shellie Billington at the wheel. This photo my be from Snetterton if not early Santa Pod.

    This Comp Coupe ran Santa Ana in '53 at around 130 M.P.H. with a fuel burning Cadillac.
